SIMWON NA Corp. is a tier-one auto body parts manufacturer in Kyle, Texas. The Manufacturing Engineer – Hot Stamping / Cold Stamping is responsible for developing, optimizing, and maintaining manufacturing processes for hot stamping and cold stamping operations. This position works closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Tooling, and Engineering teams to improve safety, quality, productivity, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve hot stamping and cold stamping manufacturing processes.
- Analyze production processes, cycle times, line capacity, scrap, downtime, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support the launch and ramp-up of new programs, parts, tooling, equipment, and production lines.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, process flow diagrams, PFMEA, and control plans in collaboration with Quality.
- Establish and optimize process parameters for stamping operations, including press settings, material handling, heating/cooling parameters, and tooling conditions.
- Troubleshoot production issues related to equipment, tooling, materials, process parameters, and part quality.
- Work with Tooling and Maintenance teams to resolve die, press, furnace, automation, and equipment-related issues.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions for recurring manufacturing problems.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, and other process improvement methodologies.
- Evaluate and implement improvements to reduce scrap, cycle time, labor requirements, and manufacturing costs.
- Assist with equipment selection, process validation, line balancing, and capital equipment projects.
- Support new product introduction (NPI), APQP, PPAP, and production readiness activities.
- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal engineering teams on technical and manufacturing requirements.
- Ensure manufacturing processes comply with applicable safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
- Provide technical support and training to production personnel as needed.
- Monitor production performance and provide recommendations to management based on manufacturing data.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of manufacturing engineering experience, preferably in automotive stamping or metal forming operations.
- Experience with hot stamping and/or cold stamping processes.
- Strong understanding of stamping presses, dies, tooling, material flow, automation, and production processes.
- Experience with root cause analysis, process optimization, and continuous improvement.
- Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flow, APQP, and PPAP.
- Ability to analyze manufacturing data and identify process improvement opportunities.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong communication and project management skills.
Education
- A bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Relevant education is not required if the candidate has 5+ years of directly applicable manufacturing engineering experience.
- Candidates with less than 5 years of relevant experience are expected to have at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or technical field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Automotive Tier 1 supplier experience.
- Experience with hot stamping of high-strength steel / AHSS.
- Experience with cold stamping and progressive/transfer dies.
- Experience with PLC-controlled automation and robotic material handling.
- Experience with CAD software such as CATIA, AutoCAD, or similar.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Experience supporting customer-specific requirements and automotive quality systems.
Physical / Work Environment
- Ability to work in a manufacturing plant environment.
- Ability to spend significant time on the production floor.
- Must be able to follow all applicable safety requirements and PPE requirements.
- Occasional overtime, weekend work, or travel may be required based on production and project needs.
