Mural City Cellars is Philadelphia’s first independently-owned urban winery. Our small, passionate team makes dry, fruit-forward wines with grapes sourced within 300-miles of the city.
We are looking for enthusiastic team members to participate in all aspects of running our Wine Bar, Bottle Shop, and Seasonal Wine Garden. Pay is $20 per hour with 3 shifts minimum per week one of which may be an on-call shift. Weekend availability is required.
Motivated and interested individuals can work up to 30 hours per week. The Wine Bar is open Wednesdays, 4-10, Thursday 4-10, Friday 4-11, Saturday 12-11, Sunday 12-10, and Monday 4-10. The Seasonal Wine Garden is open May through October, Friday 4-10 and Saturday 12-10. There will also be occasional event hours during the week.
Description of duties
Please note all Winery Team Members will rotate through one or more of these stations per shift
Bartender:
The Bartender is responsible for taking care of guests seated at the bar. This includes educating guests on the wine options, helping make selections, guiding tastings, building flights, taking orders, pouring, and handling transactions. Bartender will also be responsible for keeping the bar organized, clearing and washing dishes and glassware, and assisting RR when there are a large volume of guests ordering beverages.
Retail Register:
The Retail Register (RR) is the main source of information for guests choosing a bottle of wine, whether they are enjoying it on premise or taking it to go. RR will greet guests shopping in the bottle shop, educate guests on all of the wine options (as well as beer, cider, N/A options, and cheese/charcuterie), restock, and process transactions.
Cheese & Charcuterie:
The Cheese & Charcuterie (CC) will prepare cheese boards for guests to enjoy on premise. CC will deliver boards to the guest’s table and provide information on the cheese, charcuterie, and accouterments. CC may also offer recommendations for pairings.
Seasonal Wine Garden (May through October):
Assist guests in choosing the perfect wine; opening bottles, pouring glasses, opening other beverages, and collecting payment; setting up and breaking down the garden at opening and close; keeping the garden beautiful through cleaning and maintaining the property; accurately checking guest IDs; and maintaining excellent hospitality in a fast-paced environment.
All team members, no matter their respective station for their shift, will ensure that all guests are comfortable and acquainted with the space, will hold in-depth product knowledge and can answer any questions about the wine, our winery, and production, and will jump in as needed on any aspect of the floor that needs attention. All team members will also be responsible for opening and closing, cleaning, and side work. Winery Team Members will also be called upon for event staffing.
What we’re looking for
- Passion for East Coast wine or a strong interest in learning
- Interest in working for a small, independently owned business
- Flexibility and openness to working all stations and swapping duties at a moment’s notice
- Understanding of the constantly growing and changing nature of working for a small business
- Ability to be a team player and participate fully in each station and in the outdoor garden space
- Experience working in wine, hospitality, or customer service is a plus
- Available for at least 3 shifts per week and flexibility in schedule
- Weekend availability is required
Compensation
All Winery Team Members are paid a starting wage of $20 per hour regardless of station. Winery Team Members working buyout events at the winery will be paid $24 per hour. A 15% service charge is added to each check that supports this starting wage. We do not solicit tips in addition to the service charge, however, any additional tips are pooled and paid out to Winery Team Members at the end of the pay period based on hours worked.

- One hour of paid sick leave earned for every 40 hours worked. There is a maximum of 40 hours able to be earned over each year. These hours do not roll over.

Schedule
- The Wine Bar, Bottle Shop, and Bar is open Wednesdays and Thursdays 4-10, Fridays 4-11, Saturdays 12-11, Sundays 12-10, and Mondays 4-10.
- The Seasonal Wine Garden is open May through October, Friday 4-10 PM and Saturdays 12-10 PM, with the possibility of opening for special events throughout the year
- Winery Team Members must be available on weekends and for a minimum of three shifts per week to be eligible for the position.

- Must be employed for a minimum of one year before applying to other positions at Mural City Cellars.
