Provides journeyman-level installation, maintenance, repair and service of electrical systems to the University. Serves as crew leader and manages the electricians as instructed by the supervisor.
Leads and gives directions to skilled or unskilled workers and maintenance workers; supervises and coordinates activities of electricians in conjunction with and in the absence of the Supervisor and manages projects and work load assignments.
Prepares and assigns work schedules, on-call rotations and work assignments for subordinates.
Trains new and current employees engaged in maintenance and operation of electrical systems, and power distribution networks.
Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and ensures appropriate performance of assigned duties.
Runs conduit, pulls wire, installs circuits or electrically driven units.
Installs, maintains, and repairs a wide variety of electrical motors, generators, fans, lamps and scientific laboratory equipment.
Performs work as may relate to fiber optic, alarm and other electrical and electronic systems.
Works with high voltage, up to 15,000 volts.
Trouble shoots systems to determine root cause of the problem and necessary corrective measures.
Implements plans from working drawings.
Generates reports and assists in preparing estimates and special projects.
Works various schedules and is required to carry a pager and be On-call.
Coordinates installation with contractors, obtains quotes, and supervises work as required by the department.
Ensure research equipment installations are done as per the specifications of the manufacturer.
Functions as a point of contact for researchers needed electrical specifications for equipment.
Provide oversight and/or maintenance for specialized research equipment including but not limited to: autoclaves, cold rooms, environmental chambers, -80 C Freezers, incinerators, steam boilers, deaerators, air compressors, vacuum pumps, and HVAC systems.
Frequently works without direct supervision.
Knowledge of all Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems.
Complies with all State and University policies.
Other duties may be assigned.
