Food Truck & Kitchen Team Member
Tiki Terrace – Des Plaines, IL
Training Now for Busy Summer Season
Aloha from Tiki Terrace!
Tiki Terrace is a Hawaiian restaurant, dinner theater, catering company, and home to one of the busiest Hawaiian food trucks in the Chicagoland area. Between our restaurant, food truck, catering, and festivals, we stay busy year-round.
We are looking for a hardworking and reliable team member who wants to be part of a small team that works hard, supports each other, and takes pride in what we do.
What This Job Is
This position is a combination kitchen and food truck role. You will be trained in our restaurant kitchen at 1591 Lee Street in Des Plaines, and you will also work shifts on our food truck at festivals, private events, and catering jobs.
We are currently training new team members now so they are ready for the busy season starting in May, when our food truck schedule becomes extremely active.
What You'll Be Doing
This role includes a variety of responsibilities, including:
- Cooking and preparing food on the food truck
- Food prep and cooking in the restaurant kitchen
- Assisting with catering and events
- Taking orders and using a POS system (experience is helpful but not required)
- Washing dishes and helping clean the kitchen or truck
- Cleaning and resetting the cook line at the end of the night
- Working closely with a small team in a fast-paced environment
Important: Everyone helps with dishes and cleaning. No one leaves until the kitchen or truck is clean.
Food Truck Schedule
Our food truck operates up to 6 days per week.
Many days include both lunch and dinner events, and weekends are often large festivals or private events.
Because of travel time and event schedules, some shifts may be long, especially on weekends when the truck returns later in the evening.
Hours
This position is listed as part-time, but hours vary depending on the event schedule.
During the summer festival season, hours may reach 40+ hours per week.
Flexibility and weekend availability are important.
Vacation / Time Off
We are currently hiring and training before our busy season begins in May.
Once the festival season begins, we generally cannot accommodate extended vacation requests during peak summer months due to the heavy event schedule.
Pay
Compensation includes hourly pay plus tips from food truck events.
Most team members in this role typically average $25–$40 per hour including tips, depending on the event schedule.
Why People Like Working Here
Tiki Terrace is known for having a friendly team, fun atmosphere, and a unique work environment. Between the restaurant, food truck, festivals, and catering events, no two weeks are the same.
This position is a great opportunity to:
- Learn food truck operations
- Work large festivals and events
- Gain restaurant and catering experience
- Be part of a hardworking and supportive team
