GLC Government Services is seeking medical assistants to work a government contract at a federal correctional facility in Bruceton Mills, WV, a medium-security institution housing adult female and male inmates.
Openings: 3 Medical Assistants
Pay Rate: $22.71/hour
Place of Performance: Health Services Department at the United States Penitentiary (USP), the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI), the Secure Female Facility (SFF), and the Satellite Prison Camp (SPC).
Schedule: 40 hours per week, either five 8-hour shifts or four 10-hour shifts, Monday through Friday (excluding Federal Holidays). Work hours will be scheduled between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a valid certification/licensure as a medical assistant from an accredited institute or program (CMA through AAMA, NCMA, or NHA).
- Must hold a valid certification/licensure to practice as a medical assistant in the state of West Virginia.
- Current CPR certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross (ARC).
- Experience providing healthcare in a correctional setting preferred.
- Additional professional education and certifications are a plus.
- Ability to work with inmates from a variety of cultural, regional, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
JOB DUTIES:
- Assist healthcare providers with patient examinations and treatments.
- Obtain vital signs, collect medical histories, prepare patients for examinations, draw blood, and administer medications.
- Provide interpretation of technical information as needed.
- Perform sterile dressing applications, wound packing, enemas, suture and staple application/removal, and apply orthopedic splints.
- Assist providers during minor surgical procedures.
- Perform routine treatments.
- Administer medications through the Completely Observed Therapy (Pill Line) process.
- Assist with patient flow in the clinic setting.
- Perform all duties while following standard infection control protocols.
- Assist with patient discharge and ensure follow-up care instructions are understood.
- Maintain and care for medical equipment.
- Properly store and maintain adequate medical supplies in assigned treatment rooms.
- Ensure instruments and unauthorized items are secured during non-patient care hours.
- Assist with audits and medical record reviews.
- Perform a wide array of clerical and administrative support duties.
- Acquire and maintain knowledge of the Health Services Manual and facility procedures.
