Volt is immediately hiring for Molding Process Engineer in Buffalo Grove, IL
As a Molding Process Engineer, you will:
- Support daily injection molding operations with a focus on improving efficiency and minimizing scrap
- Optimize cycle times, reduce setup times, and ensure consistent process performance
- Establish and validate robust process windows using scientific molding techniques and Design of Experiments (DOE)
- Analyze production workflows, equipment layout, and space utilization for enhanced manufacturing performance
- Lead process validation, capability studies, and root cause investigations to improve product quality and reliability
- Develop and maintain detailed process documentation, including work instructions and setup procedures
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives and corrective actions
- Assist in designing new manufacturing processes and specifying equipment requirements
- Troubleshoot molding equipment and processes, identifying failure points and implementing solutions
- Support GMP-compliant manufacturing activities and maintain process integrity
- Participate in PFMEA, control plans, and risk assessments for new and existing products
- Provide technical input for product design, tooling, and production planning
This is a full time, direct hire opportunity.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering
- 8+ years of hands-on experience in injection molding.
- Strong troubleshooting skills related to molding processes and production defects.
- In-depth knowledge of injection molding machines (hydraulic and electric) and supporting equipment.
- Experience working with materials such as Polypropylene, ABS, Polycarbonate, and Nylon.
- Proven ability to develop and improve manufacturing processes within timeline and cost constraints.
- Experience in process validation, DOE, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- RJG Master Molder Certification (or equivalent).
- Experience with End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT), robotics, and programming (6-axis robots).
- Familiarity with medical or cGMP-regulated manufacturing environments.
- Experience with PFMEA and control plan development.
Pay Rate: $36.00 - $40.00 per hour
Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
