The salary range(s) represents our good faith estimate for the role at this time. - Senior Market Analyst: $97,580 – $126,790
- Senior Market Analyst II: $112,190 – $141,400
Overview
The Senior Market Services Analyst ensures the accuracy and integrity of the data that underpins Congestion Rent, Greenhouse Gas (GHG), Market Transmission Use (MTU), and Western Resource Adequacy Program (WRAP) Operations in SPP's Markets+. This position also serves as a critical link between technical development teams and the broader market design process, translating business and regulatory requirements into application logic and validating that new releases perform as intended. Beyond its technical contributions, this role supports organizational credibility by ensuring accurate, timely communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
Core Responsibilities
- Analyzing and reporting on Congestion Rent, Greenhouse Gas (GHG), and Market Transmission Use (MTU), and Western Resource Adequacy Program (WRAP) Operations
- Coordinate with Markets+ Transmission Service Providers and Market Participants on the verification of Transmission Service Reservations to ensure accurate representation of rights in the CRT
- Supporting and maintaining GHG tracking and reporting on the GHG platform and responding to related RMS tickets
- Supporting the annual and intra-year MTU update processes
- Translating governing document language into clear requirements and testing application releases to support primary applications
- Testing application functionality and identifying/correcting data issues
- Creating and maintaining internal documentation of processes and procedures
- Creating and maintaining requirements documentation for primary applications
- Providing analytical insights, engaging with stakeholder groups, and coordinating market design changes and technical implementation across Markets+
- Prepare and deliver technical documentation, presentations, and analysis to both internal and external audiences
- Understand the organized wholesale market rules and apply the knowledge to key business functions
- Facilitate market design changes through the SPP stakeholder process
Required Qualifications
Senior Market Analyst
- Bachelor’s Degree in economics, mathematics, or other related field
- 5 years of job-related experience
Senior Market Analyst II
- Bachelor’s Degree in economics, mathematics, or other related field
- 9 years of job-related experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in power operations or market design in the Western Interconnection.
- Experience in reserving and scheduling transmission service
- Advanced degree in economics, math or other related field of study
- Experience in utility operations, RTO operations or energy trading
- Experience with data manipulation and analysis of large data sets
- Sound understanding of the SPP Open Access Transmission Tariff, FERC & NERC governing documents, SPP By-Laws, SPP Criteria and the SPP Committee structure
Other Requirements:
- Competent with the administrative and communication tools for word processing, spread sheet development and time keeping, as a minimum
- Strong knowledge of several power systems analysis tools applicable to power system steady state, dynamic, short circuit, or database management systems
- Strong inter-personal and team work skills along with good written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office© Word, Excel, Access
- Experience in reserving and scheduling transmission service
- Proficient at organizing and conducting technical and analytical studies
- Knowledge of electric market concepts and ability to apply understanding in unique analysis
- Ability to support diverse team members and manage complex analysis projects
- Strong facilitation skills
- Strong interpersonal and team-building skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Competent working skills with communication and data handling software such as Microsoft Office, Excel and Access
