Off the Couch is seeking a dynamic and versatile individual to join our team as an Actor and Host for our Immersive Escape Room experiences. This is a part-time position with the potential for full-time hours if desired. The role combines theatrical performance with interactive gameplay facilitation to create engaging and challenging adventures for our guests.
Off the Couch specializes in creating unique, story-driven escape room experiences. Our venue offers visitors the opportunity to immerse themselves in captivating narratives while solving intricate puzzles within carefully designed, themed environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform in character as integral part of our immersive escape room scenarios
- Welcome and brief guests on game rules and safety procedures
- Guide participants through the narrative and puzzle-solving experience while maintaining character
- Adapt performance based on group dynamics and puzzle-solving progress
- Provide subtle hints and clues to groups when necessary, without breaking immersion
- Monitor time limits and ensure smooth game flow
- Reset rooms and verify puzzle integrity between sessions
- Ensure safety of participants throughout the experience
- Collect and report on guest feedback and game completion data
Qualifications
- Acting experience, preferably in interactive or immersive theater
- Strong improvisational skills and ability to stay in character under various circumstances
- Excellent verbal communication and storytelling abilities
- Experience in customer service or hospitality
- Quick thinking and problem-solving skills in a live performance environment
- Familiarity with escape room concepts and puzzle mechanics
Required Skills
- Ability to memorize and deliver scripts while adapting to guest interactions
- Strong situational awareness to monitor guest progress and safety
- Capacity to guide guests through challenges without explicitly solving puzzles
- Basic technical aptitude for operating room mechanics and effects
- Physical stamina to perform in character for extended periods
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
