Position Summary
We are seeking a Journey-Level Project Engineer to support transmission engineering and design projects. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in electrical transmission line engineering, engineering design, project management, technical analysis, and field coordination.
This role requires an engineer who can independently manage moderately complex engineering assignments, apply sound engineering judgment, coordinate with project managers, construction teams, contractors, consultants, and other stakeholders, and deliver projects in accordance with applicable engineering standards, codes, and safety requirements.
The position involves a combination of office, remote, and field-based work within the service territory and requires approximately 10–15% travel for field visits and project-related activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engineering and design activities for moderately complex transmission projects.
- Independently plan and execute engineering assignments under general direction.
- Perform engineering analyses, technical studies, calculations, and conceptual designs.
- Develop project scopes, design criteria, technical specifications, engineering reports, and other project documentation.
- Evaluate engineering alternatives and recommend appropriate project solutions based on technical, cost, schedule, and operational considerations.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, engineers, construction personnel, contractors, consultants, vendors, and internal business partners.
- Participate in project planning, scheduling, resource coordination, risk identification, and project execution activities.
- Track engineering deliverables, milestones, schedules, and project requirements.
- Support project cost estimates, budget tracking, change management, and contract administration.
- Solicit, prepare, and evaluate proposals and contracts from engineering consultants.
- Review consultant deliverables and contracts for technical compliance, quality, scope, schedule, and project requirements.
- Conduct field walkdowns, site visits, design review meetings, and project coordination meetings.
- Present engineering findings, recommendations, project updates, and technical solutions to internal teams, contractors, and vendors.
- Review and approve engineering reports, new drawings, and revisions to existing drawings.
- Interpret and apply applicable engineering codes, regulations, standards, and company construction practices.
- Develop restoration plans and participate in root cause analysis following facility or equipment failures.
- Respond promptly to facility failures and emergency engineering requirements.
- Provide technical guidance to contractors, consultants, and outside vendors.
- Represent the company in meetings with government agencies and other external stakeholders for assigned projects.
- Perform Associate-level engineering functions when required.
- Ensure engineering activities are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project schedules and quality requirements.
Project Management Skills
- Experience supporting or leading engineering projects from scope development through design, construction, and closeout.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, deliverables, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of project scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, and resource management.
- Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and external engineering consultants.
- Ability to develop and monitor project schedules, milestones, and engineering deliverables.
- Experience identifying project risks, developing mitigation strategies, and resolving project issues.
- Strong vendor and contractor management skills.
- Experience reviewing project proposals, statements of work, contracts, and technical deliverables.
- Ability to communicate project status, technical issues, risks, and recommendations to project stakeholders and management.
- Strong documentation, reporting, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineering, construction, operations, and project management teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited U.S. curriculum or equivalent international degree.
- Minimum 3 years of cumulative engineering and design experience.
- Experience working on engineering projects with multiple internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, technical, communication, and project coordination skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness and ability to travel approximately 10–15% for field visits.
- Must be a local candidate able to work within the designated service territory.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with electrical transmission line engineering for 115kV–500kV systems.
- Strong knowledge of GO 95, NESC, and transmission line engineering standards.
- Familiarity with utility transmission line construction practices.
- Strong experience with PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE, and related transmission engineering tools.
- Experience with utility engineering, transmission infrastructure, or power delivery projects.
- Experience managing engineering consultants, contractors, and vendors.
- Experience with project scheduling, cost tracking, risk management, and project controls.
- Previous experience working on large-scale utility transmission projects.
Work Environment & Other Requirements
- Hybrid schedule: 1–2 days onsite per week.
- Approximately 10–15% travel for field visits and project-related activities.
- Company laptop and phone will be provided.

Pay: $70.00 - $90.00 per hour
