American Traveler is seeking an experienced Emergency Department RN for a Level 2 trauma center in Rapid City, SD, with a minimum of 2 years of ED experience and required TNCC and PALS certifications.

Emergency Department in a hospital setting with 33 main ED beds, including 8 trauma/resuscitation beds, 4 behavioral health rooms, and a vertical care area for lower-acuity patients

Serves 150–180 patients daily ranging from neonates to geriatric, including sepsis, DKA, GI bleeds, respiratory illness, and critical trauma (GSWs, stab wounds, MVCs, drownings, falls)

Level 2 trauma center with a heavy trauma population, particularly during summer months
-
Certified Complete Stroke Center capable of accepting stroke patients with symptom onset up to 24 hours prior
-
Pediatric critical care is provided within the ED, including care for critically ill children
-
Cardiac patient population with access to a cardiac catheterization lab on site
-
RN patient ratio is 1:4–5
-
12-hour variable shifts; possible shift times include 0630–1900, 1000–2230, 1200–0030, 1400–0200, and 1830–0700
-
Travelers will not be scheduled for both day and night shifts within the same week
-
Weekend work is possible depending on staffing needs
-
No on-call requirements
-
Charting system is Epic; Omnicell and Alaris are also used
-
Floating may occur to inpatient Med/Surg, PCU, or ICU as a task nurse only — not to take a full patient assignment
-
Active RN license from the South Dakota Board of Nursing or a Compact RN license currently in hand
-
Graduation from a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing
-
Minimum 2 years of ED experience excluding travel experience; candidates with 1.5 years of ED experience (excluding travel) plus 2 years of experience in another setting may be considered with management approval

Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC, and PALS
-
CPI or MAB/MOAB certification preferred
-
Proficiency with ESI triage assessments and the ability to care for all acuity levels
-
Strong critical thinking, communication, and patient prioritization skills
-
Epic EMR experience preferred; please disclose if you do not have Epic experience
-
Two professional references dated within the past year are required for consideration
-
DOB and SSN are required for consideration

Travelers are expected to care for sexual assault patients and participate in evidence collection (e.g., buccal swabs, fingernail scrapings, clothing collection, and victim interviews) on a rotating basis with permanent staff — pelvic exams are not required; a resource booklet and a 24/7 Sexual Assault Quality Coordinator are available for support

Unit support includes ED Techs, a Lead Tech, 24/7 charge nurse coverage, 24/7 physician and NP coverage, hospitalist support for admitted patients, respiratory therapy, phlebotomy, radiology/CT, pharmacy tech, and on-unit security

Orientation includes an 8-hour facility NEO and 4 hours of ED-specific education plus a minimum of two 12-hour shifts on the unit

Time off requires manager approval; no RTO will be approved during the first three weeks of August due to the Sturgis Bike Rally

Candidates must reside more than 100 miles from any Monument Health facility to be eligible

Previous permanent staff must wait a full year before returning as a traveler
