Medical Assistant – Family Practice Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced, dependable Medical Assistant to join our established family practice office. This position works directly with a physician and is ideal for an MA who enjoys developing a consistent workflow with one provider and taking ownership of their daily responsibilities.
The Medical Assistant will have a dedicated desk/workspace and will be responsible for supporting the physician throughout the day, preparing patients and charts for visits, completing clinical tasks, and helping ensure the provider's schedule runs efficiently.
We are looking for someone who is organized, comfortable working independently, attentive to detail, and able to communicate professionally and compassionately with patients.
Responsibilities
- Work directly with the physician to support their daily patient schedule and clinical workflow
- Room patients and prepare them for examinations
- Obtain and accurately document vital signs
- Review and update medications, allergies, medical history, and other pertinent information
- Prepare examination rooms and necessary supplies before visits
- Assist the physician with examinations, procedures, and treatments
- Administer vaccines, injections, and prescribed medications/antibiotics as directed
- Perform EKGs
- Perform hearing screenings
- Perform ear lavage
- Perform pulmonary function testing
- Obtain and perform in-office testing and properly document results
- Enter and maintain accurate information in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Assist with patient messages, forms, orders, and other clinical follow-up as directed by the physician
- Prepare charts and review the schedule for the following day's appointments
- Identify missing records, test results, or other information needed for upcoming appointments
- Maintain an organized personal workspace and clinical area
- Clean and stock examination rooms and clinical supplies
- Follow HIPAA, infection-control, and patient-safety requirements
- Assist with additional clinical or administrative duties as needed to support the practice
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous Medical Assistant experience in a primary care, family medicine, or outpatient medical office is required
- Medical Assistant training or certification preferred
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology
- Experience with medication and vaccine administration
- Experience using an EMR/EHR system
- Comfortable performing common primary-care clinical procedures
- Strong computer and documentation skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a busy medical office
- Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a team
- Dependable, punctual, and consistent attendance
- Professional and respectful communication with patients, providers, and coworkers
What This Position Offers
This is a great opportunity for an experienced Medical Assistant who prefers a consistent provider assignment and an organized work environment. You will work primarily with the same physician, have your own dedicated desk/workspace, and play an important role in keeping the physician's patient care and daily schedule organized and running smoothly.
Family practice experience is strongly preferred.
Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
