Our family-run maple farm is looking for a friendly and hard-working individual to join our growing cafe & market team. The cafe & market proudly serves fresh-baked pastries, specialty coffee beverages, a small-batch locally sourced menu and ice cream daily.
Position:
The Assistant Cafe Manager supports the Cafe Manager in overseeing cafe and retail store operations, stepping in to lead the team in the Cafe Manager's absence. This is a hands-on role that works alongside the team on both the front and back of house, helping deliver a high level of hospitable service while keeping daily operations running smoothly. Reports to: Cafe Manager
Core Job Responsibilities
- Lead and direct the team in the absence of the Cafe Manager, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations
- Work shifts on both the front of house (counter, coffee bar, customer service) and support the back of house (prep, kitchen) as needed
- Support training of new team members, reinforcing standards for service, coffee quality, and food preparation
- Ensure high-quality food and beverage service to customers at all times
- Assist with prep planning and execution for weekly operations and special events
- Support inventory counts and help identify ordering needs
- Help ensure the kitchen and cafe remain clean and compliant with health and safety standards in partnership with the team
- Support execution of weekly menu specials and online ordering updates
- Be customer service oriented, friendly, and responsive to customer needs while ensuring fair, respectful treatment of the team
- Fill in shifts as needed due to team vacations, call-outs, or scheduling gaps
- Help implement and uphold standard operating procedures and checklists
- Handle cash management procedures accurately and in line with policy
Key Qualifications
- Strong coffee background — hands-on experience as a barista or coffee lead, with real knowledge of espresso, brewing methods, and coffee quality standards
- Experience in a supervisory or shift-lead capacity in a coffee shop or fast-paced food service environment
- Comfortable working both front of house and back of house as the day requires
- Positive, can-do mindset with a genuine interest in growing into more responsibility over time
- Strong organizational skills and ability to stay calm and effective during busy periods
- Ability to balance treating the team with respect and kindness while still keeping the shift productive and on track
- Availability to work weekends and a flexible schedule, including filling in for shifts as needed
This is a full time position.
Compensation
$22–$25/hour plus tips
