We are looking for a hard-working, motivated individual to fill a dual veterinary assistant and receptionist position at our privately owned small animal general practice. We are hoping to hire someone who is looking for a longterm position, and we are willing to help the right candidate grow and gain experience on the job as we grow our business. Ideal candidate would have at least 2 years of communication/reception experience along with 2 years of veterinary experience. Hourly wages negotiable based on level of experience. Job Description/Responsibilities (not an all-inclusive list):
- Take appropriate and detailed patient histories
- Properly document communications in medical records
- Keep surgical suite, treatment areas, exam rooms, kennels, etc. clean, organized, and sanitized
- Properly restrain animals for examination and treatment
- Obtain and run laboratory samples
- Administer medication/therapy prescribed by veterinarians
- Observe animal behavior or health condition and report to the Vet
- Help in cases of emergencies
- Assist receptionists with phones when needed
- Communicate with clients and answer medical and technical questions, and determine which communications need to be relayed to the doctor
- Keep accurate records and logs
- Opportunity for surgery training once initial training is complete
- Answer phone calls and handle and/or direct them appropriately
- Provide quality customer service with a positive attitude
- Keep complete and thorough medical records for all communications
- Learn our computer system
- Complete cash and credit card transactions
- Keep reception area and lobby clean and organized
Skills
- Experience as a Veterinary Assistant or similar position working with animals recommended
- Comfortable being around animals (cats, dogs)
- Experience in communications/customer services
- Patient and caring personality
- Positive attitude and ability to work as a team
- Ability to follow instructions properly and grow from constructive criticism
- Comfortable being around animals (cats, dogs)
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. lift up to 50 lbs)
- Availability to occasionally work in emergencies and be flexible with availability if needed
- High school diploma; a certificate from a Veterinary Assistant program is a plus
