Position Overview
This position will play an important role in the organization's risk management strategy, including the internal control framework and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance program. The Senior Risk & Controls Analyst collaborates with SOX consultants, external auditors, and business units to mitigate strategic, financial, operational, and compliance risks.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Enhance and maintain company-wide SOX and internal control program, including governance and program management, scoping, planning, and SOX documentation.
- Collaborate with process and control owners to document walkthroughs, narratives, and process flows.
- Maintain a robust risk and control matrix (RCM) and ensure documentation remains current across all business units.
- Liaise with SOX consultants and external auditors during relevant phases of the annual SOX compliance program.
- Monitor performance of controls and findings from internal testing and external audits.
- Evaluate deficiencies and work with business partners on their corrective action plans.
- Facilitate, execute, and/or monitor certain centralized control activities.
- Advise and train business partners regarding risks, internal controls, SOX, and process improvements.
- Summarize and report SOX and project results and recommendations to business partners, senior leadership, SOX consultants, and external auditors.
- Assist in the development and execution of the enterprise risk management (ERM) strategy that identifies and addresses strategic, financial, operational, and compliance risks.
Work Leadership Requirements
- This position is not a people manager and does not have indirect reports.
Education, Work Experience, and Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in risk management, audit, accounting, finance, or a related function.
- Experience in the property and casualty insurance industry or the broader financial services industry.
- Experience working in a public company environment or with a public accounting firm.
- One or more of the following certifications (or other relevant certifications):
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
- Certified Risk Manager (CRM)
- Financial Risk Manager (FRM)
Essential Competencies and Skills
- Sound analytical, strategic thinking, and problem‑solving skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong technical understanding of SOX requirements, internal control frameworks (e.g., COSO), and PCAOB auditing standards.
- Strong risk awareness with the ability to identify improvements in control design.
- Solid understanding of Statutory and GAAP accounting and reporting.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proven ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and uphold high ethical standards.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Work Location
- This position may be performed either on‑site at our corporate office in Fargo, ND, or remotely from the employee’s home. Candidates must reside in one of the following states: Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin.
Travel Requirements
- This role does not require regular travel. For employees who reside outside of the Fargo, ND area, occasional visits to the Fargo office may occur based on business needs but are not a standard expectation for this position.
Physical Requirements
- Be able to withstand typical office work that includes periods of sitting, standing, typing, etc. indoors while potentially performing job tasks in close proximity to other people.
- In addition to typical office work, must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally to move objects.
- Requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer screen, visual inspection, assembly of parts, or extensive reading.
- Ability to have a flexible work schedule to meet business needs and be at work during specified or core hours.
- Must be able to operate standard computer hardware.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
