Under the direction of a Caltrans Electrical Supervisor in Special Crews, incumbent is responsible for operation of assigned electrical maintenance activities in the 694 cost center. While much of the work will be performed in Siskiyou county, the incumbent may also be required to perform work in Trinity, Lassen, Tehama, Modoc, Plumas, and Shasta counties. Required to work overtime, nights, and weekends due to storms, emergencies, or special work projects, as determined by the Supervisor or Department. Must be able to respond to emergencies after normal work hours. This position is considered full journey level. A valid California Class C driver’s license is required. This position is represented under collective bargaining.
Eligibility for hire may be determined by your score on the Caltrans Electrician II exam. For those who do not have current eligibility (e.g., transfer, permissive reinstatement, or voluntary demotions) and/or who will be new to state civil services employment, you must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions. This position requires visual and color acuity adequate to successfully perform the essential functions of the job, willingness to work at odd hours, be available for day or night calls, stay abreast of current technological changes in the fields of electricity and electronics, work up to 550 feet above pavement or water, work in the midst of traffic, and have the ability to withstand working under adverse (e.g., cold, wet, windy) weather conditions.
