Responsibilities
- Assist with food production and meal preparation according to dietary guidelines and resident preferences
- Serve meals to residents with professionalism, ensuring proper portioning and presentation
- Adhere strictly to dietary requirements, including special diets for medical or religious reasons
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards in the kitchen and dining areas, including cleaning dishes, utensils, and food prep surfaces
- Support safe food handling practices by following proper manual handling techniques and using personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, including ovens, mixers, and other culinary tools
- Assist with bussing tables, clearing plates, and ensuring the dining environment remains tidy and inviting
- Follow all workplace safety protocols, including safe lifting practices for heavy items and proper sanitation procedures
- Collaborate with nursing staff and dietary team to meet the nutritional needs of residents, especially those with specific dietary restrictions or medical conditions
- Support the overall food service operation by managing time effectively during busy meal periods
Skills
- Previous experience in assisted living facilities, nursing homes, hospitals, or the food industry is highly valued
- Strong knowledge of food production, preparation, serving techniques, and sanitation standards
- Familiarity with operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently
- Ability to adhere to dietary requirements and support residents with special nutritional needs
- Excellent time management skills to handle multiple tasks during meal service times
- Basic math skills for portion control and inventory management
- Customer service orientation with a caring attitude towards geriatric patients or residents
- Knowledge of food safety regulations such as JCAHO standards and proper food handling procedures
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high standards of cleanliness and safety
- Physical capability for heavy lifting, standing for extended periods, manual handling tasks, and working with PPE
