Full Job Description

Introduction

The Town of Barnes is looking for a Full-Time Highway crew member to join our team.

Position Summary

Knowledge of highway operations including the operation of mower tractors, front-end loaders, motor graders, chipper, chain saws, brush saws, steamer, various sized trucks from pick-up to quad-axle dump trucks.
Must produce an accurate account of all material used, time expended and machinery used in each area of work accomplished.
Must have knowledge of or ability to handle various manual tasks from pavement maintenance, shoulder maintenance, and the operation of snow and ice removal equipment.

Examples of Duties:

Roadway maintenance and construction
Mowing and brushing operations
haul materials for maintenance and construction
Plow snow and ice removal operations

Salary Information

$23 - $30/hr depending on experience. Health insurance, retirement

Job Details

4-10 hour days, 6am-4pm unless more needed. Background check and drug screen.

Safely lift up to 50 pounds. On occasion safely lift 50-100 pounds.
Frequently stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop and hear.
Reach and climb.
Work in varied environmental conditions including temperature extremes, varied air quality and exposure to construction materials and fumes.
Ability to work for extended hours during periods of inclement weather.
Must have feeling in hands & feet to operate equipment and tools.
Must have close vision, distant vision, color vision peripheral vision Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications

Commercial Driver’s License highly desired.
Must have telephone at residence as all employees are subject to 24 hour call-out.
Prefer at least 3 years previous experience in maintenance of highways.
Must be in good health and able to perform heavy physical tasks under varying working conditions.
Successful candidate will be required to take a physical examination and CDL drug and alcohol screening.
Must have a good and safe driving record.
