ORGANIZATIONAL BACKGROUND
Established in 1977, Prevail Illinois, formerly known as Sexual Assault Counseling and Information Service (SACIS), is an independent, not‐for‐profit organization dedicated to the healing and empowerment of sexual assault survivors (and significant others) through non‐judgmental crisis intervention counseling, individual and group counseling, and medical and legal advocacy in Coles, Cumberland, and Southern Clark County, Crawford, Edwards, Richland, Wabash, Lawrence, and Jasper Counties. Prevail Illinois provides public education and institutional advocacy to improve the treatment of sexual assault survivors and to effect positive change in policies and public attitudes toward sexual assault.
POSITION DETAILS
In this position, the right candidate will be accompanying survivors of sexual assault during their time at the Crawford Memorial Hospital Emergency Department and Richland Carle, should the survivor welcome your presence (SACIS is called automatically by the hospital). This includes providing information on survivor rights and services (the sexual assault forensic exam is free, for example). All of this will be explained in a 40 hour training with our regional credentialing body then direct training with our advocacy staff. We are looking for candidates who are compassionate and can adhere to very strict confidentiality guidelines. The ability to maintain strong emotional and practical boundaries to protect the agency and our clients is essential.
One medical advocate will be hired and will work 15 days per month as negotiated with the supervisor. The medical advocate will be available on weeknights and on weekends to respond to all medical calls to the Crawford Memorial Emergency Department in Robinson, IL and Richland Carle in Olney, IL. The advocate will be paid for shifts whether or not on site medical advocacy is required/provided during the course of the month. The advocate must be able to respond within 60 minutes to calls to the hospital.
***In addition to medical advocacy responsibilities, this position provides opportunities for flexible daytime medical and legal advocacy hours, along with a small caseload supporting survivors of sexual violence through court accompaniment. These additional hours are scheduled with flexibility.***
NOTE: The new staff member will be required to undergo a forty-hour training program to meet the requirements to be covered by confidentiality related to the provision of services for sexual assault victims.
