Organization: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kansas City District, Engineering Division, Geotechnical Branch Duty Location: Duty location Kansas City, MO.
Duties: Comprehensive Fleet Maintenance & Overhaul including Inspection, maintenance, and execution of complex repairs and overhauls on a diverse range of heavy mobile equipment, including specialized drilling rigs, engines, transmissions, and intricate hydraulic and electrical systems. Advanced Troubleshooting & Fabrication, including the diagnosis of difficult performance problems on aging or non-routine equipment, improvising repairs, and fabricating or redesigning components to meet specific operational capacities and safety requirements. Contractor Oversight & Quality Assurance to determine the most practical repair methods, requisition parts, and supervise private contractors performing external repairs or custom equipment modifications, ensuring all workmanship and new/rental equipment meet strict contract specifications prior to acceptance. Operational Testing & Crew Training to ensure supported crew can safely operate heavy motor vehicles up to, or exceeding, 43,000 lbs GVW in varied conditions to accomplish duties and perform operational tests, while also developing procedures and instructing drill crews on proper equipment operation, safety, and preventive maintenance. Lead the Geology Section's Five-Year Plant Replacement and Improvement Program by evaluating new drilling technologies, determining the annual sequence of equipment replacements, and advising leadership on future acquisitions.
Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Ability to perform common Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic duties. Perform mechanical maintenance, overhaul, repair, and fleet management of a variety of vehicles and equipment including drill rigs, skid steer material handling equipment, tractor trailers, forklifts, hydraulic equipment, and other general automotive equipment as well as assorted miscellaneous items of mechanical equipment; and use a variety of electronic test equipment to trouble shoot special problems.
