American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on a 34-bed surgical unit in Charlotte, NC, requiring at least 18 months of med/tele experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Work in a 34-bed Med/Surg Tele surgical unit with an average census of 32 patients
-
Patient population includes both medical and surgical diagnoses such as DKA, sepsis, CHF, AKI, pneumonia, sickle cell crisis, spinal fusions, pancreatitis, and orthopedic total joint replacements (knees/hips)

Night shift schedule: 1900–0700, 36 hours per week

RN-to-patient ratio is 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights; surge staffing may temporarily increase ratios to 1:7–1:8

EMR: Epic (experience required)

Equipment includes Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Philips monitors, and Rover Communication devices

Telemetry monitoring is performed on-unit by staff — no remote tele monitoring is available

Every other weekend rotation required

Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays

Floating is required within Region 2, which includes Pineville, Anson, Union, Union West, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, CMC Mercy, and Levine Children's Hospital) — candidates who are not willing to float to these facilities should not apply

Active NC or compact RN license required

Current BLS certification required

Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg Tele experience required, with most recent experience within the last year

Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required

Experience with non-titrating cardiac drips (e.g., Cardizem, Amiodarone) required
-
General med/surg skillset required, including care of patients with tubes/drains, IV starts, blood product administration, and wound care/dressing changes
-
At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position

Unit support includes CNAs (1:12 ratio), a receptionist/HUC, charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, dedicated unit pharmacist, two case managers, a Med/Surg Clinical Nurse Specialist, 24/7 respiratory therapy, a nurse educator, and 24/7 hospitalist coverage

Orientation includes a facility-level new employee orientation (NEO) followed by 2 days of departmental orientation

Required scrub color for RNs is navy blue
