Human Resources, Safety & Employee Relations Manager
The Human Resources Manager is responsible for overseeing all HR related functions including workplace safety, benefits administration, and employee relations at our two Pennsylvania manufacturing locations in Jersey Shore and Montoursville. In this high visibility, hands-on role, you will be a bridge between our employees, our leadership, and our operations team, by developing and implementing cost effective, HR practices and strategies that align with business needs and goals, while fostering a productive, positive and respectful work environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead all plant-level HR functions for two locations, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, and policy administration.
- Proactively spend time on the production floor daily to connect with employees, observe operations, and address concerns in real time.
- Communicate regularly and meet with union representatives, fostering constructive labor-management relationships.
- Participate in the grievance process, from initial discussion to resolution, ensuring fairness, compliance, and timely follow-up.
- Mentor and coach employees and supervisors to strengthen skills, improve performance, and support career growth.
- Oversee safety programs and loss control initiatives, ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations and internal safety standards.
- Manage workers’ compensation claims from incident reporting through resolution, partnering with insurance providers and legal teams as needed.
- Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations, implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Utilize internal and outside resources to lead the planning and delivery of safety and other training programs for all employees, from new hires to leadership.
- Administer employee benefits programs, and coordinate annual insurance renewal planning, working with internal leadership and brokers and providers to secure competitive, cost-effective plans.
- Manage pension and retirement plan administration, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and timely communication to employees.
- Maintain accurate HR, safety, benefits, and compliance records, ensuring readiness for internal and external audits.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to employees, plant supervisors, operations team, and company leadership, providing guidance on HR policies, safety protocols, benefits, and workplace concerns.
Experience and Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Safety Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
· 5+ years of HR experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment, with at least 2 years in a safety, benefit administration, compliance, or labor relations role
· Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, workers’ compensation processes, and safety best practices.
· Experience working in a unionized environment, including grievance handling and contract interpretation is preferred but not required.
· Proven ability to mentor and coach employees at all levels to improve performance and engagement.
· Experience administering employee benefits programs, including renewals and pension plans. Knowledge of self-funded insurance arrangements would be a plus.
· Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills, with the ability to build trust across diverse teams.
· Proactive, hands-on leadership style with a commitment to daily visibility and accessibility on the production floor.
