The Unified Government of Wyandotte County AmeriCorps VISTA Program strengthens local capacity to improve access to emergency preparedness information for low-income and underserved residents. This position supports the Emergency Management Department by developing sustainable communication systems that increase public awareness and engagement. The VISTA member will develop and document communication strategies, messaging frameworks, and outreach tools to support year-round emergency preparedness campaigns, including National Preparedness Month. The member will create templates and processes for digital media content such as video shorts, public service announcements, newsletters, and social media messaging. The VISTA will also support development of a newsletter system, including templates, content strategies, and standard operating procedures for long-term sustainability. In addition, the member will conduct communications market analysis to identify target audiences and develop tools to track engagement and measure outreach effectiveness. By strengthening communication systems and improving access to emergency preparedness information, this project will help residents better respond to emergencies and maintain stability during and after crises.

Member Duties : The AmeriCorps VISTA member will develop and support systems for emergency preparedness communication and outreach. They will assist in developing newsletter systems and standard operating procedures for ongoing communication efforts. The VISTA will also conduct audience analysis, create tools to track engagement, and develop recommendations to improve outreach effectiveness. These efforts will strengthen public access to emergency preparedness information and improve long-term communication capacity.
