Position Summary
The Quality Control Inspector is responsible for inspecting structural steel assemblies throughout the fabrication process. This position verifies compliance with engineering drawings, fabrication standards, and customer specifications while documenting inspections electronically using Powerfab Go. The QC Inspector works closely with fabrication, welding, shipping, and project teams to ensure products are built right the first time.
Primary Responsibilities: Fit-Up Inspection
- Inspect fabricated assemblies before welding to ensure compliance with approved shop drawings.
- Verify dimensions, member orientation, hole locations, detail parts, and overall fit-up.
- Confirm all materials, fittings, and components match drawing requirements.
- Complete required bolting during fabrication when applicable and according to project requirements.
- Document all fit-up inspections usingPowerfab Go inspection records.
Final Inspection
- Inspect completed weldments for overall workmanship and compliance with project specifications.
- Verify weld quality and overall fabrication accuracy.
- Inspect products for slag, burrs, sharp edges, and other quality concerns.
- Confirm non-paint (NP) areas are properly identified.
- Apply required tags for galvanized and NP products.
- Complete electronic final inspection documentation in Powerfab Go.
- Verify products are properly palletized, stacked, and prepared for shipment.
- Communicate with the Shipping Manager regarding storage locations and shipment readiness.
Drawing Revisions & Quality Control
- Review drawing revisions received from Document Control.
- Identify affected material and assemblies requiring revision.
- Clearly mark impacted material using the established revision identification process.
- Coordinate movement of assemblies to minimize production disruptions.
- Communicate recommended action plans with management and production teams.
- Ensure all revised work is inspected before release.
General Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate electronic inspection records.
- Read and interpret structural steel fabrication drawings.
- Identify nonconforming products and assist with corrective actions.
- Work closely with welders, fitters, production supervisors, and shipping personnel.
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and quality-focused work environment.
- Promote Steelworks' culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications: Preferred Experience
- Minimum of 5 years Experience Quality Control processes within structural steel fabrication
- Experience performing quality inspections in a fabrication environment.
- Ability to read structural steel shop drawings.
- Knowledge of fabrication processes including fitting, welding, drilling, and bolting.
- Experience using electronic inspection or quality documentation systems is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with production personnel and management.
Preferred Qualifications
- Structural steel quality control experience.
- Knowledge of AISC fabrication standards.
- Welding inspection experience is a plus.
- Familiarity with Tekla PowerFab software is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk throughout a fabrication facility.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to climb ladders and work around structural steel assemblies.
- Ability to work safely in an active manufacturing environment.
Pay: $24.00 - $30.00 per hour
