Reimbursement Specialist Essential Functions

- Identifies and resolves patient billing issues/complaints.
- Answers questions from patients, clinical staff, and insurance companies.
- Reviews accounts for insurance trends/report findings to supervisor.
- Reviews and submits clean claims to all insurances.
- Experience working with Electronic Response Admittance's (ERAs) and Explanation of Benefits (EOBS).
- Possess strong knowledge of CPT and ICD 10 coding guidelines
- Manages Accounts Receivable.
- Process refunds for overpayments from insurance and patients.
- Manages bad debt/uncollectible accounts.
- Understands payment and charge postings.
- Reviews and maintains monthly reports.
- Responsible for daily/monthly reconciliation and balancing.
- Processes release of information requests for medical records.
- All other duties assigned.
Reimbursement Specialist Required Skills/Abilities
- Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment.
- Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system.
- Uses professional étiquette via email, phone, and in- person communications.
- Effective collaboration skills, focusing on strong working relationships with patients, team-members, and other employees.
- Possesses strong knowledge of CPT and ICD 10 coding guidelines.
- Ability to work independently.
- Demonstrates honesty, integrity, and accountability.
- Demonstrates strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adhere to HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
Required Education and Experience
- A minimum of 2 years of medical AR/Billing (revenue cycle process experience, preferably in Ophthalmology.
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with Electronic Response Admittance's (ERAs) and Explanation of Benefits (EOBS).
- Experience using an EHR, Modernizing Medicine EHR preferred.
- CPC certification is preferred.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- A medical office environment with controlled atmosphere. Possible exposure to staff or patients with communicable diseases and blood borne pathogen
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to communicate via the telephone.
- Must be able to view and type computer data.
Travel
- As needed by the practice
