About Byrne Brothers
Byrne Brothers is an independent broadline foodservice distributor serving restaurants, caterers, and foodservice operations throughout our region. We are family-owned, operator-driven, and built on the belief that consistent products, reliable delivery, and real relationships are what keep customers coming back.
We are growing, and we are looking for people who want to grow with us — not just take orders but build something.
The Opportunity
This is a ground-floor sales role built for someone who wants to learn the foodservice distribution business from the inside out. You will be trained to prospect for new accounts, develop the ones you open, and build a book of business that you own.
This role is for someone who is energized by working with people, comfortable picking up the phone or knocking on a door and motivated by watching their effort translate directly into their earnings. If you have been looking for a career where your results are visible and your growth is real — this is it.
What You'll Do
Prospecting & New Account Development
- Build and work on a target prospect list within your assigned territory — restaurants, hotels, caterers, institutions, and other foodservice operators
- Develop new business by utilizing market intelligence, business directories, existing customer referrals, and active participation in local industry events and trade associations
- Warm call and visit prospects in person to introduce Byrne Brothers and move relationships toward a first order.
- Warm infers that you have researched your prospects before the sales call to walk in prepared with relevant information and a reason to buy
- Track all prospects and customer activity
Account Onboarding & First Delivery Excellence
- Personally coordinate with operations on new account details before the first delivery ships — no surprises
- Follow up after every first delivery to confirm the experience met expectations and resolve any issues quickly
- Serve as the customer's advocate inside the building — if something goes wrong, you own getting it fixed
Account Penetration & Retention
- Utilize our data analytics tool to grow the product mix and order value across your account base by introducing customers to categories they are not yet purchasing from Byrne Brothers
- Know your customers' menus, purchasing patterns, and business needs well enough to recommend solutions they did not know to ask for
- Build relationships with chefs, owners, and purchasing managers that go beyond the transaction
- Monitor account buying activity and proactively reach out when patterns change
Customer Support & Day-to-Day Operations
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues that occur during the order and delivery process — mispicks, shorts, stock-outs, and substitutions
- Communicate and assist with accounts receivable as needed, working with the credit department and customers to manage balances within approved credit terms
- Stay current on market conditions, product innovations, and competitor activity — share relevant information with customers as a value-added service
Sales Reporting & Team Collaboration
- Participate in weekly pipeline reviews with your Sales Manager with current data on prospects, open accounts, and pipeline activity
- Collaborate with internal partners across operations, purchasing, and accounting to deliver a consistent customer experience
- Maintain accurate account and prospect records at all times
What We're Looking For
Education
- College degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Professional Sales, or a related field preferred
Experience
- Prior experience in foodservice, restaurant operations, culinary, or hospitality is a strong plus — you understand the world your customers work in
- Any prior sales experience — internships, summer work, retail, or B2B — is valued
- Experience with CRM tools or Microsoft Office is helpful
Skills & Attributes
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills — comfortable talking with line cooks and restaurant owners alike
- Genuine competitive spirit and a results-driven mindset
- Ability to build relationships from scratch, including cold outreach
- Problem-solving instincts and solid organizational habits
- Coachable and committed to continuous improvement — this business has a learning curve, and we invest in people who take it seriously
- Team-oriented approach to working with internal and external stakeholders
Other Requirements
- Valid driver's license with a clean motor vehicle record
- Ability to drive regularly throughout the territory
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 lbs
Work Environment & Schedule
This is a field-based role. The majority of your time will be spent in your territory — visiting customers, calling on prospects, and supporting deliveries. Some time in the office is expected for planning, reporting, and team communication.
Foodservice is an early-industry. Your customers start their day before most people, and being available when they need you is part of the job. You will also work in variable weather and temperature conditions as part of normal field activity.
