Job Responsibilities:
- Oversees, manages, and directs the day-to-day clinical, operational, administrative, business, financial, and academic functions of the department, ensuring efficient operations and alignment with departmental and organizational priorities.
- Partners with the Department Chair, faculty, supervisors, and department leadership to establish strategic priorities, develop operational goals, implement initiatives, and ensure accountability for achieving departmental and organizational objectives.
- Directs the recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, development, supervision, and retention of departmental personnel.
- Performs staff evaluations and disciplinary actions in consultation with HR and/or COO.
- Analyzes, interprets, and presents operational, financial, productivity, quality, and performance data to the Department Chair and executive leadership to evaluate departmental performance, identify trends and opportunities, support data-driven decision making, and improve operational efficiency, patient access, and quality of care.
- Develops, manages, and monitors the department's annual budget while maintaining fiscal accountability and identifying opportunities for operational and financial improvement.
- Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates departmental policies, procedures, and workflows to ensure operational effectiveness, regulatory compliance, and alignment with organizational standards and strategic initiatives.
- Oversees the operational performance of departmental billing, collections, revenue cycle activities, and related financial processes in collaboration with appropriate departments to promote financial performance and operational efficiency.
- Creates a positive, team-based work environment that promotes accountability, engagement, continuous improvement, professional development, and excellent customer service.
- Communicates effectively with staff, physicians, and other departments within Marshall Health and the School of Medicine and serves as the liaison between department and external institutions/agencies.
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, university, and organizational regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, The Joint Commission (TJC), infection prevention standards, environmental safety requirements, and other regulatory and accreditation requirements.
- Enhances professional growth and development by attending educational workshops and conferences, reviewing professional publications, and maintaining knowledge of healthcare operations and regulatory requirements.
- Serves on various committees and performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Three to five years of experience in Health Care Administration, Nursing, or other related clinical experience required. Knowledge of healthcare operations, budgeting, personnel management, regulatory compliance, HIPAA, quality improvement, Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel), and the ability to learn and effectively utilize electronic health records and other healthcare information systems preferred.
