Saville Flowers, Evanston's boutique family-owned flower shop for more than 80 years is seeking a Part- Time Floral Sales Associate + Back-of-House Assistant with mandatory availability on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
Primary Duties
- Making sales both in-store and over the phone by conveying warmth and excellent listening, using a step-by-step framework to pitch products and increase sales. You must be highly articulate, painting pictures with words to sell flowers, potted plants, and gift items. You must also be proficient with point-of-sale technology via computer and tablet.
- Printing, organizing, and updating daily orders, looking ahead 3-7 days for special events like weddings, funerals, and graduations—beautiful penmanship is a must!
- Contributing to day-to-day operations by processing flowers, wrapping bouquets and arrangements for delivery, washing buckets, sweeping floors, cleaning coolers, unpacking and breaking down boxes for recycling, cleaning and organizing wedding supplies, and taking out trash
- Keeping the store organized using dedicated daily, weekly, and monthly systems
- Contributing positively to an upbeat, creative environment with a small, friendly team
Additional Duties
- Selecting flowers from the cooler to pass off to designers for final arranging and occasional "greening out" of arrangements for weddings and events
- Basic plant care such as watering and repotting
- Merchandising the sales floor and rotating stock to coincide with holidays
- Loading coolers and delivery vans with flowers, candles, and other supplies
- Driving arrangements to our neighboring florist in Evanston or helping drive arrangements and supplies to events
Hours
This position is part-time 24-32 hours per week. You must be able to work Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
You can expect a guaranteed 24 hours per week with additional hours required during wedding season (April - October) and major holidays like Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, and Northwestern Graduation (June).
Additional Information
Retail floristry is extremely physical, similar to other service-industry jobs. Closed-toe, supportive, non-slip shoes are required, and you must be able to lift 25-50 pounds regularly. Clippers, gloves, and knives are provided for flower processing—although you are more than welcome to bring and label your own preferred tools.
A car is not required for this role, but a driver's license is required for occasional flower delivery or event setup. We are very close to the Davis Purple Line, the Evanston Metra, and several buses.
The last person who held this role was with us for three wonderful years! We are looking for someone committed to mastering their skills as a luxury salesperson and being a reliable, friendly worker in a fast-paced, seasonally-changing environment.
