The Visual Communications Designer develops and produces creative marketing and promotional materials across print and digital platforms, ensuring alignment with brand standards. This role creates graphics for signage, social media, and campaigns; supports photography and multimedia efforts; and collaborates with vendors to deliver high-quality materials on time. The position requires strong design expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Marketing or related field
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience in graphic communications design
- Demonstrated portfolio showcasing design experience
- Proven ability to adapt a single design across multiple applications for both print and digital media
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications
- Experience using DSLR or mirrorless cameras
- Strong digital photography and photo editing skills
- Experience preparing print materials and collateral for production and finishing
- Excellent interpersonal, written, verbal and visual communication skills with a strong understanding of marketing principles
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and proofreading abilities
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively in a deadline-driven environment
- Knowledgeable in designing graphics for social media platforms and digital channels
- Creative mindset with a strong artistic foundation
- Understanding of usage rights and creative licensing requirements
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing or related field with relevant experience in marketing, advertising or public relations
- Experience working across both PC and Mac platforms
- Experience coordinating with vendors
- Background in a marketing, graphic design, or communications role
- Product photography, e-commerce marketing and/or video production and editing experience
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Design signage and marketing materials, and promotional assets for print and digital use.
- Work independently to plan, prioritize, and execute design projects from concept through completion.
- Create graphics for email campaigns, social media, and other digital marketing channels.
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure timelines and specifications are met for printed and promotional materials.
- Support photography and video projects, including filming and editing.
- Capture photos of people, campus locations, and special events.
- Ensure all work aligns with ASA and Stony Brook University brand guidelines.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
