We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Independent Auto Appraiser to join our dynamic team serving the Grand Rapids MI market.
In this role, you will be responsible for accurately assessing vehicle and equipment damages, taking photos, estimating repair costs, and providing transparent evaluations to facilitate fair claims processing.
Your expertise will help ensure that vehicle assessments are thorough, precise, and aligned with industry standards.
Knowledge of estimating specialty vehicles and heavy equipment a huge plus!
This position offers the opportunity to work independently while collaborating with repair shops, insurance adjusters, and clients to deliver exceptional service and integrity in every appraisal.
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive inspections of damaged vehicles and equipment to evaluate the extent of repairs needed and accurately photograph those damages.
- Develop detailed auto estimates using CCC and AdjustRite auto estimating software, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Communicate effectively with repair shops, vehicle owners, and the regional Doan office to clarify assessment findings.
- Negotiate repair costs with repair shops when needed.
- Apply mechanical and auto body repair knowledge to identify hidden damages or other potential issues.
- Review automotive repair estimates for compliance with industry standards and underwriting guidelines.
- Document all appraisal findings thoroughly, maintaining organized records for each case.
Requirements
- Proven experience in auto estimating, auto restoration, or automotive repair fields.
- Preferred: Additionally, experience in specialty vehicle and/or heavy equipment estimating or repair
- Strong negotiation skills combined with excellent analysis capabilities.
- Mechanical knowledge of vehicle systems and auto body repair techniques.
- Familiarity with auto service management and service writing processes.
- Ability to perform detailed analysis of auto damage and accurately assess repair needs.
- Knowledge of auto insurance underwriting procedures is a plus.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with various stakeholders in the claims process.
Note: This is a 1099 position and not a W-2 position. You will be an independent contractor.
