We are seeking a knowledgeable and proactive Construction Safety Representative to help ensure safe operations across all our job sites, especially those involving trenching, shoring, and underground utility work.
Job Summary
The Construction Safety Representative will oversee safety compliance on civil construction projects, with a strong focus on trenching, shoring, and water/sewer utility installations. This role involves conducting site inspections, leading safety initiatives, and ensuring adherence to OSHA and company safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
· Conduct safety inspections on active civil construction sites, especially those involving trenching, excavation, shoring, and underground utility work
· Identify and mitigate hazards related to heavy equipment, confined spaces, water/sewer installations, and underground utilities
· Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, and local safety regulations
· Lead safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training sessions
· Investigate incidents and near-misses, and prepare detailed reports
· Maintain safety documentation, permits, and inspection records
· Collaborate with project managers and field supervisors to improve safety practices
Qualifications
· 2+ years of experience in construction safety, with direct experience in trenching, shoring, and water/sewer utility work
· OSHA 30 certification required
· Strong understanding of civil construction safety practices and excavation safety standards (e.g., 29 CFR 1926 Subpart P)
· Excellent communication and leadership skills
· Ability to travel to multiple job sites
· Valid driver’s license
Certifications
Safety professionals must possess at least one of the following certifications:
- CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician)
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
- ASP (Associate Safety Professional)
- OHST (Occupational Health and Safety)
- STS-C (Safety Train Supervisor- Construction)
- Graduate or Chartered Member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health)
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in EHS discipline or EHS related field
