Duties
- Dispense prescription medications accurately while adhering to all state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations.
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to determine appropriate medication therapies, including specialized care for pediatrics and critical care patients.
- Prepare and compound medications using aseptic techniques in compliance with USP 797 standards, ensuring safety and sterility.
- Provide expert medication counseling to patients, including immunizations, medication administration instructions, and health education.
- Manage pharmacy inventory efficiently, overseeing stock levels, expiration dates, and proper storage practices.
- Utilize Pharmacy Information Systems (PIS), Electronic Health Record (EHR), and Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems for accurate documentation and medication tracking.
- Ensure pharmaceutical regulatory compliance by maintaining clinical confidentiality policies, adhering to drug regulation standards, and supporting pharmacy accreditation processes.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals on medical management plans, pain management strategies, and drug therapy optimization within hospital or LTC (Long-Term Care) settings.
- Assist in training pharmacy technicians and supporting staff to uphold high standards of patient service and pharmacy operations.
- Participate in hospital or clinical rounds to support acute care initiatives and contribute to patient care teams with specialized pharmaceutical insights.
Qualifications
- Valid licensure as a Registered Pharmacist with current state licensing requirements.
- Proven experience in LTC pharmacy or hospital/acute care settings is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated clinical pharmacy experience with proficiency in medical terminology, physiology, anatomy, and pharmacology.
- Strong knowledge of drug regulation, HIPAA compliance, pharmacy laws, and healthcare regulations such as USP 797 standards.
- Experience with pharmacy software systems including PIS, EHR/EHR systems, and pharmacy automation tools.
- Skilled in compounding medications using aseptic techniques for IV infusions and other sterile preparations.
- Ability to perform patient assessments effectively while demonstrating excellent communication skills for patient service delivery.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; additional certifications such as immunizations or IV insertion are advantageous.
- Familiarity with inventory management practices and medication administration protocols within hospital or long-term care environments.
- Strong understanding of healthcare compliance policies related to clinical confidentiality and medical management.
