Public Relations Officer, Range 26, $55,160.23 annual/$26.52 hour

The City of Deming is accepting qualified applicants for the position of a full time, Public Relations
officer. The Public Relations Officer will organize and oversee PR activities and ensure effective
communication with the media, the public and social media. The PR Officer should be an organized and
cool-tempered professional who is able to handle a crisis. The PR officer should have a creative mind and
excellent communication skills. This position will require a flexible work schedule.
Essential Duties:
- Develop PR campaigns and media relations strategies.
- Collaborate with internal teams and maintain open communication with upper
management.
- Edit and update promotional materials and publications.
- Prepare and distribute press releases.
- Organize PR events and serve as the City’s spokesperson.
- Seek opportunities for partnerships.
- Address inquiries from the media, public, and other parties.
- Track media coverage and follow industry trends.
- Prepare and submit PR reports.
- Manage PR issues.
- Manage Social Media Accounts.
- Attend various events as requested, report back to upper management.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or
related field.
- Proven experience as a public Relations Officer or similar PR role.
- Experience managing media relations (online, broadcast and print)
- Background in researching, writing, and editing publications.
- Proficient in MS office and social media.
- Familiarity with project management software and video/photo editing is a plus.
- Strong communication ability (oral and written).
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Creativity and problem-solving aptitude.
- Able to become Drone operator certified.
