Job Summary
The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date financial records for Cedar Property Management. This position manages daily financial transactions, accounts payable and receivable, monthly payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports. The Bookkeeper works closely with the property management team to support operational and financial compliance and may assist with property management administrative functions as assigned. This role requires strong attention to detail, discretion with confidential financial information, and the ability to meet recurring deadlines independently.

Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Enter and process all accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions accurately and in a timely manner
- Execute monthly check runs on the 10th of each month
Payroll Processing
- Enter and maintain all monthly payroll records in the payroll system
- Process and distribute payroll checks by the 10th of each month
- Calculate and process annual bonuses and merit increases as directed
- Prepare, process, and distribute W-2s and 1099s in compliance with annual IRS deadlines
Financial Reporting
- Generate and submit monthly payroll reports
- Prepare and distribute monthly accounting reports
- Compile and file all quarterly payroll and tax reports
- Prepare and submit year-end tax reports
- Review, analyze, and recommend adjustments to annual budget reports
Bank Reconciliations
- Perform monthly reconciliations for all company bank accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
Office & Records Management
- Maintain an organized, professional, and audit-ready workspace and filing system
Communication & Meetings
- Attend required monthly meetings with the property management office to review financial performance and support operational planning
Competencies
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to identify and correct errors before they impact reporting.
- Proficiency in bookkeeping and software (list platforms like Sage and Excel as examples). Intermediate to advance proficiency.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet recurring deadlines including monthly payroll, check runs, and quarterly tax filings.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of financial and payroll information in accordance with company policy and applicable privacy regulations
- Effective written and verbal communication with both financial and non-financial team members including the ability to explain financial information clearly to non-accounting staff
- Ability to work independently, managing assigned responsibilities, recurring deadlines, and daily bookkeeping functions with minimal supervision and strong self-direction.
- Ability to work collaboratively and partner effectively with the property management team, sharing information proactively, supporting team goals, and maintaining a cooperative and professional working relationship.
- Dependability and consistency in attendance and follow-through on assigned responsibilities
- Demonstrates reliability in meeting deadlines and fulfilling commitments without close supervision
- Sound judgment and problem-solving skills when identifying and resolving financial discrepancies with the ability to escalate issues appropriately when resolution exceeds scope of authority

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment, performing work primarily at a desk using a computer, telephone, and standard office equipment, with occasional movement throughout the office to access files, attend meetings, or support property management operations as needed.

- Frequently operating a computer keyboard and mouse with repetitive hand and wrist motion
- Occasionally moving or transporting files, boxes, or office supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
- Reaching, bending, or stooping to access lower filing cabinets or storage areas
- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment including printers, copiers, and calculators
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Full-time, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week. Office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 3:00 pm Friday’s. Days off are Saturday and Sunday.
Travel
Able to travel 10% of the time and must comply with all relevant company travel.
Required Education and Experience
- A high school diploma or equivalent is typical for this position.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred; equivalent work experience will be considered.
- 3-5 years’ bookkeeping experience required.
- Manager experience preferred but not required.
