Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Project Estimator to join our construction team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates for commercial construction projects, ensuring profitability while maintaining competitive pricing. Responsibilities
- Review and interpret construction blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to accurately estimate material requirements and labor costs.
- Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, and other construction management tools to develop detailed project estimates.
- Prepare comprehensive bid proposals by analyzing project scope, timelines, and client requirements.
- Conduct cost analysis including material costs, subcontractor quotes, and labor rates to ensure competitive yet profitable pricing.
- Manage project estimates from initial concept through final bid submission, updating as project details evolve.
- Collaborate with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams through negotiation to secure favorable terms and pricing.
- Monitor project budgets during execution to control costs, identify potential overruns early, and implement effective cost management strategies.
- Review construction drawings thoroughly to identify potential issues or discrepancies that could impact costs or scheduling.
- Maintain detailed records of all estimating activities, including spreadsheets, bid logs, and contract documentation.
- Support project management teams by providing accurate cost data for scheduling, procurement, and resource planning.
Requirements
- Proven experience managing projects as a construction estimator within the commercial construction industry.
- Strong proficiency with estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate or similar tools.
- Extensive knowledge of construction management software platforms and Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word).
- Exceptional blueprint reading skills with the ability to interpret complex technical drawings accurately.
- Demonstrated expertise in cost control, material cost estimating, and budgeting for large-scale projects.
- Excellent negotiation skills for working with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to achieve optimal pricing agreements.
- Ability to read and review construction drawings thoroughly while identifying potential issues early in the process.
- Construction site experience combined with a solid understanding of construction processes and industry standards.
- Strong communication skills for effective client interaction and team collaboration.
- Knowledge of contracts and project management principles relevant to estimating activities.
