Location: Florida State College at Jacksonville (Various Campus Locations, primarily Kent Campus)
Position Summary
Florida State College at Jacksonville's Continuing Workforce Education department is seeking qualified and engaging English Language Institute (ELI) Instructors to provide face-to-face instruction to adult English language learners. This position requires teaching during daytime hours at various FSCJ locations, with the majority of classes held at the Kent Campus.
The ELI Instructor is responsible for creating a supportive and interactive learning environment that promotes students' English language proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing while helping them achieve their educational, career, and personal goals.
Essential Responsibilities
· Provide in-person instruction for adult English language learners.
· Teach assigned daytime classes at various FSCJ locations, primarily the Kent Campus.
· Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with the ELI curriculum.
· Assess student progress through classroom activities, assignments, and formal assessments.
· Maintain accurate attendance, grades, and required documentation in accordance with college policies.
· Foster a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment.
· Utilize instructional technology and college learning platforms as appropriate.
· Participate in instructor meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
· Communicate effectively with students, program staff, and administrators.
Minimum Qualifications
· Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution.
· Experience teaching English language learners or adult education.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic instructional technology.
· Ability to travel to various FSCJ campus locations.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Education, English, or a related field.
· ESOL or TESOL certification.
· Experience teaching adult learners in an English Language Institute or Adult Education program.
· Experience using learning management systems such as Canvas.
· Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations.
Work Schedule
· Instructional Modality: Face-to-face only
· Schedule: Daytime hours
· Primary Teaching Location: Kent Campus
· Additional Locations: Other FSCJ campuses and instructional sites as needed
Physical Requirements
· Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom during instruction.
· Ability to lift instructional materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
· Ability to use classroom technology and presentation equipment.
