the Superintendent of Schools
Job Summary:
- The Director of ENL, Bilingual Education and World Languages is a district level position that reports directly to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction and the Superintendent of Schools. The Director of ENL, Bilingual Education and World Languages shall have general responsibility for all aspects of the development, implementation, and update of ENL, Bilingual Education and World Language curriculums. S/he will supervise all ENL, Bilingual Education and World Language programs and services and work closely with the building administrators and department coordinators to implement the programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor compliance with applicable regulations, including New York State Part 154 requirements, Title III, and other federal and state mandates.
- Provide instructional coaching and professional support to ENL, Dual Language, and content-area teachers.
- Support the coordination and implementation of district-wide ENL, Dual Language, and multilingual learner programs, PreK-12.
- Assist with identification, placement, scheduling, and service delivery for multilingual learners in accordance with federal, state, and district requirements.
- Review student records, language proficiency data, and educational histories to make recommendations regarding program placement and instructional support.
- Lead world language curriculum development and implementation.
- Provide professional development and guidance to staff on interpreting NYSESLAT and WIDA assessment data and applying results to classroom instruction.
- Coordinate multilingual family engagement and communication.
- Support district initiatives related to equity, diversity, multilingualism, and culturally responsive education.
Qualifications:
- State Education Department Certification - SDA or SDL
- Minimum of five years' administrative experience, with Central Office level work preferred
- Ability to effectively manage time and fiscal resources
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Extensive knowledge of ENL, Bilingual Education and World Language programs
- Knowledge and effective use of technology in instruction, management, and communication
- Strong and collaborative leadership with an honest, transparent, and inclusive style that supports high student outcomes and educational excellence
