Position Overview
AFIA is seeking a compassionate, flexible, and student-centered school counselor or social worker substitute to support our school community for the remainder of the 2025–2026 school year. The substitute counselor or social worker will play a critical role in supporting student well-being, responding to immediate needs, and collaborating with staff and families to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Student Support & Crisis Intervention
- Provide direct support to students experiencing social-emotional or behavioral challenges
- Respond to student crisis and safety concerns using trauma-informed and developmentally appropriate practices
- Support students with regulation, coping strategies, and problem-solving skills
Collaboration
- Work closely with administrators, teachers, and support staff to address student needs
- Communicate and collaborate with families to support student success
- Participate in team meetings and student support discussions as needed
Restorative Practices
- Facilitate restorative conversations and conflict resolution between students when harm occurs
- Support accountability, empathy, and relationship repair through restorative approaches
- Reinforce a positive, inclusive school culture grounded in respect and responsibility
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation, including counseling notes and incident reports
- Ensure compliance with school policies, confidentiality standards, and required procedures
General School Counseling Responsibilities
- Support school-wide social-emotional learning efforts as needed
- Serve as a trusted adult and advocate for students
- Uphold the mission, values, and expectations of Academy for Integrated Arts
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Work, School Counseling, or a closely related field or current enrollment in a school counseling or social work program
Compensation: Commensurate with experience
