Job Overview
The Clinical Product Specialist – Therapeutic Ultrasound (Physical Therapy) will be a key member of the Valdara business unit, responsible for bringing real‑world physical therapy and therapeutic ultrasound experience into our product and commercial decisions. The role is ideal for a clinician who has used ultrasound and other modalities on patients, understands the language and business needs of PT clinics, and wants to help shape a new focused‑ultrasound offering rather than treat patients full‑time.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the internal “voice of the physical therapist,” providing input on product requirements, user workflows, and clinical use cases for Valdara therapeutic and focused‑ultrasound solutions.
- Translate PT clinic workflows (evaluation, treatment, documentation, billing, and follow‑up) into clear product features, user interface needs, and training content.
- Evaluate and refine proposed clinical indications and protocols based on evidence, practical usability in busy clinics, and PT expectations around outcomes and patient experience.
- Conduct structured interviews, site visits, and remote conversations with PTs, clinic owners, and staff to gather feedback on product concepts, prototypes, and commercial offers.
- Advise on pricing, packaging, and business models (capital purchase, lease, subscription, per‑use, or hybrid) that align with PT clinic economics, staffing patterns, and reimbursement/cash‑pay realities.
- Partner with engineering and product teams to prioritize features and improvements that remove adoption barriers, streamline workflows, and support high utilization in clinic settings.
- Support initial pilot deployments, including onboarding clinics, training PTs and staff on device use and basic protocols, and capturing structured feedback to guide iteration.
- Collaborate with marketing and sales to develop PT‑appropriate positioning, messaging, and collateral that clearly communicate clinical value, workflow fit, and ROI.
- Help identify, cultivate, and support key opinion leaders (KOLs) and early‑adopter clinics willing to participate in case series, educational content, and conference presentations.
- Provide internal education across Valdara and the broader organization on PT practice models, terminology, and decision drivers.
- Maintain awareness of clinical evidence, guidelines, and prevailing sentiment in the PT community regarding therapeutic ultrasound and related modalities, and advise on how that impacts product and market strategy.
- Travel periodically within the United States to visit pilot sites, support key customer engagements, and attend select internal meetings and industry events, in a manner consistent with a 10–20 hour/week role.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- None initially; may evolve to include oversight of additional clinical specialists, trainers, or field support personnel as the Valdara business scales.
Education
- Licensed Physical Therapist (DPT or equivalent) strongly preferred.
- Other licensed clinicians with significant outpatient musculoskeletal or sports medicine experience considered if they have deep ultrasound/modality experience with PT practices.
Experience
- 3–7+ years of clinical experience in outpatient physical therapy, sports medicine, or orthopedics, including hands‑on use of therapeutic ultrasound or similar modalities as part of patient care.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating, adopting, or championing therapeutic technologies or modalities within a clinic (e.g., ultrasound, shockwave, laser, e‑stim, traction, or similar).
- Experience interfacing with vendors, participating in product demos/evaluations, or influencing purchasing decisions in a clinic or multi‑site PT group strongly preferred.
- Prior experience in a medical device or PT‑equipment company (clinical specialist, product advisor, educator, or field trainer) is a plus but not required.
Knowledge and Training
- Deep understanding of PT clinic workflows, including scheduling, evaluation and treatment flow, delegation to PTAs/techs, documentation, and discharge planning.
- Working knowledge of how PT clinics make money: payer mix, reimbursement, cash‑pay models, visit volume expectations, and common business constraints.
- Familiarity with therapeutic ultrasound indications, limitations, and prevailing evidence, as well as typical PT perceptions (enthusiasm, skepticism, and real‑world usage patterns).
- Ability to translate qualitative user feedback into structured product requirements and prioritized feature requests.
- Comfortable operating in a high‑growth, fast‑paced environment and collaborating with engineering, product, marketing, sales, and leadership teams.
Technical Skills
- Proficiency with standard productivity tools (Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office) for documentation, analysis, and presentations.
- Ability to read and interpret basic clinical and health‑economics literature relevant to PT and therapeutic ultrasound.
- Comfortable using and explaining medical devices and software interfaces; experience with digital health tools, EMR systems, or PT documentation platforms is a plus.
Soft Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to “speak PT” while also communicating clearly with engineers, executives, and non‑clinical stakeholders.
- Strong facilitation and presentation skills; comfortable leading trainings, small‑group discussions, and external conversations with clinic owners and KOLs.
- High curiosity and intellectual honesty, with a willingness to challenge assumptions and candidly convey what will or will not work in real PT practice.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams (product feedback, field visits, internal projects) in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience participating in or supporting clinical pilots, case series, or small‑scale studies in PT or related fields.
- Existing network of PT contacts (clinic owners, directors, or educators) who are interested in new technologies.
- Prior involvement in conference presentations, CE courses, or professional society activities related to PT or therapeutic technologies.
- Experience with open‑source communities or collaborative development models is a plus, given Valdara’s and the broader organization’s focus on open platforms.
