The Law Department is comprised of two sections, the City Attorney's Office, which handles representing the City in civil matters, and the City Prosecutor's Office, which handles the prosecution of misdemeanor crimes committed in Phoenix. The City Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced Legal Secretary to join the litigation team.
The Legal Secretary provides highly skilled and detail-oriented legal secretarial and administrative support to senior executives, administrators, or attorneys in the Law Department. Work is performed independently with minimal supervision.
Duties include:
- Performing a wide variety of complex, confidential, administrative and secretarial tasks.
- Scheduling meetings.
- Calendaring court appearances and deadlines.
- Docketing/calendaring using case management software.
- E-filing documents with various courts (state and federal).
- Drafting various legal documents.
- Reviewing documents for completeness, proper formatting, and typographical errors.
- Finalizing pleadings for court filings, special actions, and petitions in municipal, state, and federal courts.
- Conducting electronic research via the internet.
- Preparing and mailing subpoenas.
- Processing and monitoring civil legal proceedings/cases.
