About the Role
This is primarily a litigation position, with a focus on unlawful detainer / eviction matters as part of the attorney’s core responsibilities. The role will include broader real estate and business litigation, and may involve related transactional work depending on the candidate’s background and the needs of the firm.
The ideal candidate is someone who:
- Has solid litigation experience and understands Washington civil practice
- Is comfortable handling matters with increasing independence
- Can communicate clearly and professionally with teammates, clients, opposing counsel, and the court
- Is organized, efficient, and accountable
- Is willing to use modern legal technology, including artificial intelligence tools, responsibly and effectively
Primary Responsibilities
- Handle unlawful detainer / eviction matters from intake through resolution
- Draft and argue motions, including show cause and related eviction proceedings
- Appear in court on behalf of clients
- Draft, review, and revise pleadings, motions, declarations, briefs, and correspondence
- Conduct legal research and analyze Washington statutes, case law, and procedural rules
- Manage discovery, document review, and case strategy
- Advise clients on litigation risks, strategy, deadlines, and resolution options
- Work on disputes involving contracts, real property, business issues, boundary lines, defaults, and related litigation matters
- Collaborate with attorneys and staff on litigation and, where appropriate, related transactional matters
- Maintain strong client relationships and provide timely, professional communication throughout representation
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in Washington State
- 2–5 years of litigation experience in a law firm or in-house legal environment
- Experience with motion practice, hearings, court appearances, and case management
- Working knowledge of Washington civil rules, including pleadings, motion practice, discovery, deadlines, and case procedures
- Strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience handling unlawful detainer / eviction matters
- Experience in real estate, business, or construction litigation
- Familiarity with local court practices in King, Snohomish, Pierce, or surrounding counties
- Exposure to transactional work related to real estate or business matters
