Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Special Education Teacher (Moderate/Severe) to support students in a Structured Learning Services (SLS)/Autism Center-Based Program. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced special education professional who is passionate about helping students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) achieve academic, behavioral, and social success.
This is a full-time, school-based position serving elementary-aged students in a collaborative educational environment.
Position Details
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, Day Shift (7:30 AM – 4:00 PM)
- Hours: 40 hours per week
- Contract Length: 43 weeks
- Student Population: Kindergarten through 5th Grade
- Caseload: Approximately 10 students
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with moderate to severe disabilities.
- Provide specialized instruction to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and similar learning needs.
- Create and maintain a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment.
- Utilize AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) devices, visual supports, and evidence-based instructional strategies.
- Collaborate with families, administrators, therapists, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Supervise, mentor, and train 5–6 paraprofessionals in classroom procedures and student support strategies.
- Monitor student progress, maintain accurate documentation, and ensure compliance with special education regulations.
- Support students with behavioral, communication, and social-emotional needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Special Education teaching credential/licensure (as required by the state).
- Minimum 1 year of experience teaching students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
- Previous experience in a Structured Learning Services (SLS) or center-based autism program.
- Experience developing and managing IEPs.
- Strong classroom management and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with non-verbal students.
- Knowledge of AAC communication systems and visual supports.
- Experience supervising or leading paraprofessionals.
- Familiarity with positive behavior intervention strategies.
Additional Requirements
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) training must be completed within the first 90 days of employment.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, student-centered educational environment.
