Purpose
The Assistant Superintendent, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) supports Garcia’s field leadership in overseeing and coordinating on-site civil construction activities. This role assists in ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with Garcia’s quality standards and core values.
Responsibilities
- Support the Superintendent in coordinating daily for field operations, maintenance activities, inspections, and site execution.
- Assist in ensuring all work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, Garcia standards, and safety requirements.
- Monitor and report on operational schedules, identifying potential delays, conflicts, or field constraints.
- Participate in site inspections and safety meetings; reinforce Garcia safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with planning and documentation of Daily Whiteboard Safety Huddles.
- Maintain accurate daily field reports, logs, and progress documentation.
- Identify field issues and escalate to the Superintendent in a timely manner.
- Assist with coordination between Garcia Project Managers, engineers, subcontractors, inspectors, and vendors.
- Support tracking and organization of equipment, materials, and deliveries on-site.
- Assist with on-site quality control by monitoring workmanship and reporting deficiencies.
- Support compliance with environmental permits and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in coordinating subcontractor mobilization and site readiness prior to start of work.
- Develop understanding of contract requirements and scope to support field execution.
- Track field quantities and progress; assist with weekly updates and reporting.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and communicate concerns to the Superintendent.
- Assist in documenting and communicating site-specific change requests to the Garcia Project Manager.
- Support verification of subcontractor quantities for monthly billing.
- Attend project site meetings, safety meetings, stand-downs, and related Garcia activities.
- Represent Garcia with professionalism, integrity, and a team-oriented approach consistent with company core values.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required
- One - three years of construction or related field experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic knowledge of construction practices, operations and maintenance activities, safety standards, and OSHA requirements.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow direction while demonstrating initiative and accountability.
- Strong attention to detail and recordkeeping skills.
- Exercises sound judgement, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficient in Procore, Autodesk Build, Bluebeam, and scheduling software such as Primavera P6.
- Valid Florida Driver’s License, a clean driving record, and a reliable mode of transportation.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills Desired
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish).
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- While on project sites, must endure continuous standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing on a regular basis.
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours and weekends in response to short-term company needs and/or emergencies.
- Ability to work outside in varied weather and temperature conditions.
