Introduction

The Department of Corrections, Division of Juvenile Corrections, is focused on public safety through the custody and supervision of youth placed in our care. The Department of Corrections is currently recruiting to fill a Deputy Institution Superintendent position, located at the Milwaukee Youth Facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Facility Superintendent and utilizing the directives of DJC and the statutes of the State of Wisconsin, this position will operate, direct, and supervise the daily operations of a Type 1 Juvenile Correctional Facility. This position has primary responsibility for oversight of daily operations, including education, Security, safety, scheduling, programming, visiting, crisis intervention, contracted services, and other ancillary services.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 81-01 with a starting annual salary of $121,550 - $127,046 plus excellent benefits. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A two year career executive trial period is required.

Job Details

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, or an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without DOC sponsorship) at the time of application.

The Department of Corrections may conduct pre-employment drug screens. Any applicant who is offered employment in a position which requires a pre-employment drug screen must pass the screen as a contingency of employment.

The Department of Corrections will conduct criminal background checks on applicants prior to selection. Upon hire, all new DOC employees are subject to fingerprinting.

This position is not eligible for remote work.

Must possess a valid drivers license at time of hire and meet State of Wisconsin fleet requirements.

This position will be required to attend the Facility Staff Training and Support (FSTS) - DJC six week training academy.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

Directing and supervising professional and/or non-professional staff (assigning and evaluating work, hiring, disciplining, etc.)

Developing and implementing programs (educational, social services, etc.), including planning, implementation, and evaluation of program effectiveness

Developing, implementing, and administering policies and procedures

In addition to the above, well-qualified applicants will have experience:

Collecting and analyzing data to identify improvement opportunities

Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. local governments, community organizations, etc.)

Working with at risk youth populations (justice/court involved youth, youth with disabilities, etc.)
