Pay: $8.25 - $10.00 per hour
The YMCA of Indiana County is seeking an enthusiastic and dependable Swim Team Assistant Coach to help support a positive, safe, and competitive swim team environment. This position assists the Head Swim Coach in developing swimmers' technique, endurance, confidence, and sportsmanship while promoting the YMCA's core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. As a Swim Team Assistant Coach, you will play an important role in helping swimmers achieve individual and team goals while fostering a positive, inclusive, and motivating team culture.
Schedule Requirements:

Typical practice times: Monday through Friday, approximately 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM

Attendance at weekend swim meets and special events as needed
Responsibilities:
-
Assist with planning and conducting swim team practices and workouts.

Teach and reinforce proper stroke technique, starts, turns, and competitive swimming skills.

Provide constructive feedback, encouragement, and support to swimmers of varying ages and ability levels.

Promote teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and respect among participants.

Maintain a safe and supportive environment during practices, meets, and team events.

Attend swim meets and assist with athlete supervision, competition preparation, and meet operations.

Monitor swimmer progress and communicate achievements or concerns with the Head Coach.

Build positive relationships with swimmers, parents, YMCA staff, and volunteers.

Enforce safety procedures and YMCA policies.

Report accidents, incidents, and safety concerns promptly.

Attend required trainings, meetings, and YMCA events.

Report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with Pennsylvania Child Protective Services Law and YMCA policy.

Perform other duties as assigned to support program success.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to demonstrate swimming techniques and assist in the water when needed.

Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move around the pool deck for extended periods.

Ability to lift and move equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.

Ability to effectively supervise participants in a busy aquatic environment.

Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations.

Ability to work in a warm, humid pool environment around pool chemicals.
Required Qualifications:

Competitive swimming experience required.

Strong knowledge of swim strokes, starts, turns, race strategies, and training techniques.

Ability to motivate, mentor, and develop swimmers in a positive and inclusive environment.

Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to recognize hazards, enforce safety standards, and respond appropriately to emergencies.

Demonstrated reliability, professionalism, and sound judgment.

Commitment to the YMCA mission and core values.
Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum age of 16 years preferred.

Previous swim coaching experience preferred.
-
CPR/AED, First Aid, Lifeguarding, and YMCA Swim Coach certifications preferred, or willingness to obtain required certifications.
