Job Summary
Birmingham Service League is a non-profit organization serving children in the Birmingham community. We are searching for a part-time store clerk and cashier to provide excellent customer service in our upscale thrift shop. Encore Thrift Shop raises the funds to provide new clothing for children in need, which makes our store clerks the primary ambassadors for our mission. The main role of our clerks is to offer positive, friendly, and efficient service to customers and members while completing sales on the register. Secondary tasks include maintaining cleanliness of store, restocking and organizing sales inventory, and other projects as assigned by management. Scheduling is fixed, but flexible, and we always have Sunday and Monday off! We are open Tues-Sat from 10AM-4PM. Scheduling for this role is likely to be Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 10-4 with a maximum of 30 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Operate POS systems efficiently to process sales transactions with accuracy and speed
- Greet customers warmly and provide exceptional customer service
- Handle cash, credit, and other payment methods accurately with proper cash handling procedures
- Assist customers with product inquiries
- Maintain merchandising displays and ensure products are well-stocked and organized
- Stock shelves and manage inventory levels throughout the store
- Uphold phone etiquette when assisting customers via phone inquiries
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the checkout area and store
- Support members when needed
- Other tasks as needed, such as sorting and processing donations
Experience
- Previous cashiering or retail sales experience required!
- Familiarity with POS systems and retail math for accurate cash handling and transaction processing
- Strong communication skills, basic math skills, and excellent phone etiquette are essential for success in this role
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to communicate with the team by phone, text, or email
