Position summary:
The Materials Handler is responsible for assisting Transportation and post retail salvage departments in the processing, packaging, labeling, movement and storage of materials between Goodwill locations and other business destinations, as well as for maintaining cleanliness and organization of the warehouse and dock areas. This position includes baler operation, as well as forklift operation on a consistent basis.
Essential functions:
- Assist in loading and unloading of various materials in all forms to and from specified destinations, such as retail locations, plants, residences or other businesses.
- Operate forklift and other material handling equipment in a safe and efficient manner while loading, off-loading, storing or moving materials.
- Safely and efficiently run the balers to create post retail baled products.
- Assist Truck Drivers and other Materials Handlers in maintaining warehouse and dock areas in a neat and orderly manner.
- Work with supervisor in solving problems while remaining flexible in adjusting to changes in operation and scheduling requirements.
- Maintains a professional and courteous image while dealing with the warehouse co-workers.
- As assigned, attend safety trainings and follow all safety procedures and protocols to ensure a safe and supervised work environment for all employees at all times.
- Promote positive teamwork among co-workers.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and required skills:
- Ability to use physical exertion such as prolonged periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, reaching and climbing; ability to lift up to 50 lbs. consistently.
Education and experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Forklift certification required; training provided by Goodwill.
- One year experience as a Materials Handler in a manufacturing environment preferred.
