High School English Language Arts Teacher – Climax-Scotts Jr/Sr High School
Job Summary:
Climax-Scotts Jr/Sr High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated High School English Language Arts Teacher to provide engaging instruction that develops students’ reading, writing, communication, analysis, and critical thinking skills. The ideal candidate will foster a positive learning environment that encourages students to engage with literature and informational texts while preparing them for academic success, effective communication, and lifelong learning.
Key Responsibilities:
• Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based English Language Arts instruction for high school students
- Develop lessons that strengthen reading comprehension, writing, speaking, listening, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills
- Create a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning and growth
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs and abilities of students
- Assess student progress using a variety of instructional and assessment strategies and provide timely feedback to students and families
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, and classroom documentation
- Integrate technology and a variety of instructional resources into classroom learning experiences
- Encourage student discussion, collaboration, creativity, and independent thinking
- Collaborate with colleagues to support curriculum development, instructional improvement, and student achievement
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, parent conferences, and school activities as required
- Maintain classroom management practices that promote respect, responsibility, and student engagement
- Ensure compliance with school policies, district expectations, and state educational standards
- Communicate with parents and school counselors on student progress.
Qualifications:
• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate English Language Arts endorsement required
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Education, or related field required
- Strong instructional, communication, classroom management, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of current literacy standards, instructional best practices, and assessment strategies
- Ability to effectively engage, motivate, and support high school students
- Experience working with high school students preferred
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
