American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Post Surgical Care Med/Surg Tele position at a Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital, requiring at least 18 months of Med/Tele experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Post Surgical Care unit in a 457-bed Level III Trauma Teaching Hospital that is also a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence

32-bed unit serving post-surgical patients with diagnoses including small bowel obstructions, general surgery (colectomy, colon/small bowel resections, nephrectomy, hysterectomy, mastectomy, appendectomy, cholecystectomy, hernia repairs, splenectomy, thyroidectomy), kidney stones, pneumothorax, bariatric surgery, rib fractures, hip fractures, joint replacements, and cellulitis

Patient ratio of 1:4–6 RN, with potential surge ratios of 1:7–8

Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, NG tubes, ostomy care, drain management, wound care, continuous bladder irrigation, tube feeds, and cardiac rhythm interpretation

EMR: Epic (experience required)

Equipment includes BD Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Masimo monitors with remote telemetry monitoring

12-hour night shifts, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM, 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required

No on-call requirements

Floating is required within Region 1, which includes Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, and Central Division facilities (CMC Main, Mercy, and LCH – peds only); candidates who are not agreeable to this floating requirement should not apply

Active NC or compact RN license required

Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS

Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Proficiency with Epic EMR required

Candidate's permanent address must be located at least 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not accepted

One professional reference dated within the past year is required, from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
-
Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Must have been separated from any Advocate Health Southeast (AHSE) facility for at least 1 year following a permanent employment position

Unit support includes NA+ CNAs (4 per shift), a 24/7 charge nurse, 24/7 phlebotomy for peripheral blood draws, an IV/VAT team, a resource nurse (as staffing allows), and 24/7 respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage

Orientation includes facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation

Travelers are expected to work 75% of assigned holidays

Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays; any missed contracted hours must be made up at the end of the contract

Schedule is set on a 6-week cycle
