We're a Black, queer, neurodivergent-affirming family looking for a warm, dependable, engaging Family Assistant & Adventure Nanny to become a trusted part of our family's village.
We're not looking for someone to simply supervise our children—we're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys building meaningful relationships with kids, encouraging their curiosity, and helping create joyful childhood experiences.
This role is perfect for someone who believes childcare is about more than supervision. If you love books, museums, libraries, messy art projects, science experiments, nature walks, community events, and helping children become curious, capable humans, you'll probably love being part of our family's life.

Schedule
This position begins on a part-time basis.
Typical Schedule
Monday–Friday
3:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Additional availability may occasionally include:
- School holidays (including some Mondays and Fridays)
- Teacher workdays
- Early dismissal days
- Summer schedule adjustments
- Occasional evenings with advance notice
- Domestic and international travel opportunities
As our family's needs continue to grow, there may be opportunities for additional hours and expanded Family Assistant responsibilities.
ResponsibilitiesChildcare
- Pick up the girls from school each weekday
- Provide attentive, engaged after-school care
- Assist with homework and school projects
- Encourage reading, creativity, and independent thinking
- Support emotional regulation using neurodivergent-affirming approaches
- Prepare healthy snacks, dinners, and simple meals
- Assist with bedtime routines when needed
Adventures & Enrichment
- Research and recommend fun, educational, and age-appropriate activities throughout the Houston area
- Stay informed about family-friendly events, museum exhibits, library programs, sensory-friendly experiences, festivals, and community activities
- Plan enriching outings during school breaks and holidays
- Encourage curiosity, creativity, outdoor play, and exploration
- Bring fresh ideas for learning and adventure
Family Assistant Responsibilities
- Safely transport the girls to school activities, appointments, and outings throughout the Houston area
- Sort, fold, and put away the children's laundry
- Help the girls clean and organize their bedrooms while encouraging age-appropriate responsibility and independence
- Keep children's bedrooms, play areas, and activity spaces tidy
- Run occasional family errands, including grocery pickup, package returns, and other approved errands
- Communicate regularly throughout the day with updates and photos when appropriate
- Be comfortable with occasional domestic and international travel
Required Qualifications
- Must be at least 25 years old
- CPR and First Aid certified
- Experience working with autistic and/or other neurodivergent children
- Neurodivergent applicants are especially encouraged to apply
- Comfortable actively supervising children in and around water and confident entering the water with them when appropriate
- Valid driver's license
- Clean driving record
- Reliable, insured, smoke-free vehicle that is appropriate for transporting children
- Comfortable driving throughout the Houston area
- Able to pass a comprehensive background check
- Able to meet pre-employment screening requirements
- Willing to sign a Confidentiality & Privacy Agreement as a condition of employment
- Reliable, punctual, and consistent
- Excellent communication skills
- Comfortable preparing healthy meals for children
- Three recent professional childcare references required
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in education, child development, psychology, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social work, recreation, or a related field
- Familiarity with Houston and surrounding family-friendly attractions
- Creative, curious, and enjoys planning enriching activities
- Passport holder or willing to obtain one
- Comfortable with occasional domestic and international travel
- Interested in building a long-term relationship with our family
Household Expectations
- We value caregivers who are fully present with our children. Personal phone use should be limited to emergencies, communication with our family, navigation, taking photos to share with us, or during breaks.
- We prioritize active engagement over screen time and encourage reading, outdoor play, imaginative play, creative activities, and exploration whenever possible.
- Please communicate promptly if you're ill or have been exposed to a contagious illness so we can make appropriate plans.
Compensation & Growth
- Starting pay: $20–25 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
- Opportunities for performance-based raises as responsibilities and hours increase
- Eligibility for a performance review after the first 90 days
- Mileage reimbursement when transporting the children or running approved family errands
- Admission costs covered for approved outings and activities with the children
- Meals provided during longer shifts and family travel
- All work-related travel expenses covered
- CPR/First Aid renewal reimbursement may be available for long-term team members

Collaboration
While this position primarily supports our weekday routine, there may occasionally be opportunities to work alongside another member of our childcare team during family outings, travel, special events, or other occasions that benefit from additional support.
Our Hiring Process

Our hiring process includes:

- Meet-and-greet with the girls
- Reference checks, driving record review, and background check for selected finalists
- Paid working interview (with me present throughout the visit)
- Final offer
During the working interview, you'll spend time getting to know our family, interacting with the girls, participating in activities together, and giving all of us an opportunity to determine whether we're the right fit for one another.
