Independent Access Control Technician – Project-Based ContractorAbout the Opportunity
Williams Access Control is expanding its network of independent contractors for project-based hospitality access control work.
Our projects are primarily located throughout Texas and surrounding states, with occasional opportunities requiring travel farther from the region. Work generally involves electronic hotel lock upgrades, access control hardware installation, system upgrades, and related field work within operating hotel properties.
This is an independent, project-based contractor opportunity — not a full-time or guaranteed-hours position. Projects are offered individually as work becomes available. Contractors may accept or decline assignments based on their availability and are free to maintain their own clients, employment, or other contract work.
Typical Project Work
- Installation and replacement of electronic hotel lock hardware
- Electronic lock reader and component upgrades
- Access control hardware installation
- Lock testing, programming, and commissioning assistance
- Basic troubleshooting of electronic locking hardware
- Documentation of completed work and field conditions
- Coordination with hotel personnel and project leadership
- Maintaining a clean and professional work environment within occupied hotels
Experience with dormakaba, Saflok, Ambiance, Onity, VingCard/ASSA ABLOY, commercial locksmithing, electronic access control, or similar systems is preferred but is not required for every project.
Contractor Relationship
This opportunity is intended for individuals who are comfortable operating independently and receiving work on a project-by-project basis.
There are no guaranteed weekly hours or guaranteed project assignments.
When a suitable project becomes available, contractors will receive information regarding the location, anticipated schedule, scope of work, compensation, and applicable travel arrangements before accepting the assignment.
Contractors are free to accept or decline individual projects based on their availability.
Travel & Lodging
Travel is required for many assignments. The majority of our projects are located within Texas and surrounding states, although projects may occasionally be available elsewhere in the United States.
For approximately 95% of travel projects, lodging is provided at the same hotel where the project is being performed, substantially reducing daily commuting while on assignment.
Contractors are responsible for providing their own vehicle and transportation for local and regional assignments, including projects within Texas. Williams Access Control does not provide company vehicles.
For assignments requiring air travel, a rental vehicle may be arranged when necessary. The contractor must independently qualify to rent and operate the vehicle and maintain any insurance coverage required for the rental.
Rental vehicle expenses are accounted for within the travel compensation established for the individual project. Travel compensation and arrangements will be communicated before an assignment is accepted.
Compensation & Rate Progression
Contractors begin at the posted introductory project-day rate while Williams Access Control evaluates workmanship, reliability, professionalism, communication, and the ability to complete assigned work independently.
Contractors who demonstrate that they are a strong addition to our project network may qualify for an increased standard rate of $175 per project day, plus a $50 daily meal per diem on qualifying project days.
There is no fixed number of days or projects required for a rate increase. Rate adjustments are based on demonstrated performance, reliability, technical capability, and the contractor's ability to work independently.
Meal Per Diem
A meal per diem of up to $50 per qualifying project day may be included in addition to the contractor's project-day compensation.
Meal per diem is not paid in advance or distributed daily. The applicable amount is included with the contractor's project payment following completion of the assignment.
Williams Access Control may purchase meals for the project crew during travel or project days. When company-paid meals are provided, the cost is shared between the individuals participating in the meal and Williams Access Control. The contractor's allocated portion of the meal cost will reduce the applicable meal per diem for that day.
When no company-paid meals are provided, a qualifying contractor may receive the full applicable $50 daily meal per diem.
Project-specific compensation, travel compensation, lodging arrangements, meal per diem, and other applicable terms will be communicated before the contractor accepts an assignment.

Ideal candidates have experience in one or more of the following:
- Electronic access control
- Commercial locksmithing
- Hotel electronic locking systems
- Low-voltage installation
- Door hardware installation
- dormakaba / Saflok systems
- Ambiance
- ASSA ABLOY / VingCard systems
- Onity systems
- Similar electronic locking or access control platforms
Candidates should be comfortable working independently, communicating professionally with hotel personnel, following defined project documentation, and completing assigned scopes without continuous supervision.
Contractors should have reliable transportation, basic hand tools, a smartphone, and the ability to travel when accepting travel assignments.

Pay: $150.00 - $175.00 per day
